Jets Trade Candidates: Keep Garrett Wilson, Listen on the Veterans
The Jets are approaching the November 10 trade deadline with another difficult decision about how much of the present to sacrifice for the future. Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson will draw the headlines, but Harrison Phillips and Demario Davis deserve a place in the discussion, too.
Deadline week brings plenty of talk about going all in and knowing when to walk away, language familiar to anyone visiting an NJ live dealer casino. Darren Mougey has to look past the noise and decide which moves would actually help this team win.
The approach should be straightforward. Keep Wilson and build around him. Be realistic about Hall. If there is a workable deal for an older defensive player, take the opportunity to add something for the future.
Garrett Wilson Should Be Staying
The Jets should make this the easiest decision of the deadline. Keep Garrett Wilson.
Wilson has already shown that he can produce without everything around him working properly. He opened his career with three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons and caught 101 passes in 2024. Those are results the Jets should be building on. His production earned him a long-term extension, and the organization should follow through on that investment. His ability to separate, adjust to the football and create after the catch gives this offense something it cannot afford to keep replacing. If the Jets are developing a quarterback, Wilson helps. If they are trying to get more out of an experienced quarterback, Wilson helps there, too.

Trading him would create another major need at a position where the Jets already have an answer. They would spend the next offseason looking for someone who can do what Wilson does. The Jets reportedly have no plans to trade Wilson. That is the right approach. His frustration with losing is understandable. Give him an offense that uses him consistently and a team capable of rewarding the work he has put in.
Breece Hall Requires a Different Conversation
Hall belongs in the discussion because Braelon Allen has given the Jets another option in the backfield. That does not mean Hall is being shopped. Aaron Glenn has said Hall will remain with the Jets. Any trade discussion needs to acknowledge that position rather than treat a hypothetical deal as something already in motion.
The contract matters, too. The Jets signed Hall to a multiyear extension in May. There is no expiring-contract deadline forcing them to take whatever they can get. Hall remains a dangerous offensive player. He can contribute as a runner and receiver, and he rushed for 1,065 yards last season. A healthy Hall and Allen could give the Jets a productive combination.
Still, Mougey should listen if another team makes a serious offer. The question is whether the return would improve the long-term outlook enough to justify losing Hall. A modest pick would be difficult to defend after committing to him just months ago.
For now, keeping Hall is the expectation. A trade would require both a change in the public stance and an offer worth considering.
Harrison Phillips Is a More Practical Candidate
Phillips makes more sense as a possible deadline move. The veteran is in the final year of his contract and could interest a contender looking for help against the run. A team preparing for meaningful games in December and January might value an experienced defensive tackle who can contribute to its rotation.
The Jets have their own depth concerns up front, so moving Phillips would carry a cost for the remaining schedule. Even so, if another team offers a draft pick in a workable deal, the Jets should take it. There is no reason to expect a huge return. The goal would be to turn a short-term veteran into another opportunity to improve the roster.
Demario Davis Is Less Likely, but Worth Considering
Davis is a tougher trade to picture. He returned to the Jets this offseason, and Glenn has spoken highly of his leadership. Moving him would mean giving up a player the coaching staff specifically wanted in the building. He is also 37 and signed a two-year contract, so a potential buyer would need to be comfortable with the financial commitment as well as the football fit.
That makes this a speculative possibility rather than a move to expect. But if a contender needs linebacker help and offers something worthwhile, the Jets should be willing to make the deal. Davis has earned plenty of respect. The team still has to consider whether keeping him through another difficult season offers more value than adding a future asset.
Build Around the Players Worth Keeping
The Jets do not need to make a trade just to look busy. They need to make decisions that leave them better prepared to win. They are loaded for the upcoming NFL draft with three first rounders.
Keep Wilson and give him a bigger role in fixing the offense. Hold a high standard for any Hall offer. Jets fans have heard enough about the next rebuild. At some point, the organization has to keep its best offensive talent and build a team around it. Wilson should be central to that plan.
