The Cast Is OFF! No Boot Either!

I am so excited!

So, Cat worked from home today and then we had picked up our medications and then headed out to the bone doctor’s!

The cast was taken off– and… well, ew! But also oddly fascinating. My foot was still swollen a little, but the soft tissue damage will take longer to get better, plus the lack of movement played into that. The bones are healing wonderfully, though, I’m told– and after x-rays to check progress, they decided I didn’t even need the boot!

Instead, I got a “post-op sandal” thing for when I wear shoes, but– since I go barefoot so much, I was told I could just wrap my foot for extra support and do that too when walking. Essentially, I’m supposed to add a half hour a day to walking every day until I’m nicely up there again. But to begin with, I’ll need to use the walker we have, because though I can now stand up without support okay, actually walking is impossible for me. Everything is weak and stiff, and my balance is all used to hopping on one foot and I keep listing to the side!

They said to expect some extra tired days and it was okay to rest, but to just get back to it when I felt better and be persistent. Just listen to my foot and if it gets tender and swollen– take a break.

I start all that tomorrow. Today, I had grocery shopping and errands and was pretty tired by the time we got home. I’m excited to have that heavy, clunking thing off my foot though! Once home, I gave my foot and ankles a long bath, exfoliation, lotion, and air dry, resting all propped up and pampered!  It feels SO much better!
