A Corner of My Nook

I’ve been running behind on SO many things for SO many months, and I’m sick of it!

Today, besides my normal chores, I cleaned up the Keeping area by the kitchen and fixed a messy and ugly unfinished part of my nook within the Keeping area. My television has a nice, wide stand with shelves for DVDs and devices, and a very tall bookshelf to the right of it. To the left was an empty corner shelf that the cats used once and broke 2 of my dragon statues! So it sat there, empty and useless and I never fixed it.

Well, the newest shelf I got matches my other wood furniture (dark cherry or mahogany stained) but was too short for where I had it. So I emptied it, moved it to the corner in question, and reset it and filled it with the books. Success! It looks better and now I have room for ANOTHER book shelf as big as the one I already got for that wall by my bathroom! Yay! More room for the rest of my books and then some!

I also moved my little table with my scanner/copier/printer on it and put all the cords and cables under it, then put a cute little throw cover on it to hide all those darned cables! (I had to have them in front because getting behind the shelves and TV stand is just not feasible and I have pain issues, so all that has to be easier for me to get to- but it is ugly to look at without a cover.)

Now that corner of my nook is fixed and looks great and is very practical the way I’ve wanted to make it for months now!

I’ll have to order another book shelf, but I can do that and get this one area of my life back to a feasible system again. I realized I still have a full box of DVDs I haven’t put away yet! Those boxes I shoved into my closet or under my bed need to be brought out and put away properly. That will mean that I need to buy a long shelf to go over my TV to put some of my art pieces upon that the cat’s can’t (easily) reach. I have money set aside for both things and will be taking care of them VERY soon.

I want to finish moving in. All the tiny detailed stuff that just makes everything work and look pretty. My corner fix up made me feel so much better, it was weird. That’s the upside of cleaning and decorating that I’m addicted to: how happy I am when I have practical solutions to make life easier AND make things aesthetically more pleasing. The boost I get in mood afterwards is pretty powerful. I just need a little energy! But even with less energy (as long as I have at least a little) I can just do my project in stages and slowly with lots of sit-down breaks. I just have to be stubborn as hell and then celebrate each tiny improvement. Kind of crazy, but whatever works, you know?

I have 2 guests coming the first weekend of October and some cleaning, organizing and decorating to do before they get here. Visitors always inspire me to get off my ass and do home projects. My favorite holiday popping up next month is yet another incentive. If home is where I’m pretty stuck most of the time, it makes sense to make the most of it to maximize living with ease and happiness.
