Covid-19 Updates: 4,335 Cases In My County, 49 Deaths

Total cases went up by 331 and total deaths by 9 this week. At least we’re below the 400 new cases a week we hit at one point!

I seem to  have escaped catching it when I went to the doctor’s office for antibiotics, happily enough. I was nervous, but it’s now been 2 weeks and it’s clear I’m fine. Every time I am in a situation where it’s possible to catch it and I don’t, I breathe a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, news on my friend Trish– and it’s not good…

Trish’s husband got exposed at his work, and was exposed for several days before the health department and human resources informed employees of the issue (low-symptoms dude ran out of PTO and went to work sick for almost a week before he was ‘caught’). So, now her whole family has been exposed, and her husband has symptoms and seems likely to test positive for it.

More distressingly, Trish, who was nearly symptom free for the last couple of weeks or so (but for slight fatigue) seems to have caught it again. She’s losing her smell and taste- again, she’s brain fogging so badly she can barely speak- again, she’s incredibly fatigued- again, and that persistent dry cough is back with a vengeance.

This is not good news because, having just beaten it, she should have antibodies and all kinds of natural immunity from this, especially in the 2 months after catching it! However, she seems to have not only caught it again, but has worse symptoms than other members of her family who are catching it for the first time. (So far, her elderly mother is not showing symptoms, and they’ve had to isolate her from everyone else– and hope it’s not already too late.)

So what is up with that? Could it be her body fought the virus down to a just a few hold-outs, and when the next round of virus hit, everything just went back to “sick” mode? I don’t know. As an Epstein-Barr “long-hauler” with CFIDS, I know tests show I had the highest level of antibodies against Epstein Barr that Oregon Health Science University had on record around 1997 or something, and when it was going around (and people tend to think it’s a bad flu unless they get mono from it) I’ve never had symptoms again. My body seems to know that that particular virus is deadly and it’s armed to the brink to defend against it.

Hearing about people being unable to form a lasting resistance to Covid is very, very worrisome.
