OMG. Another Massive Car Accident. This Time In OUR Driveway!

Right now, a wrecker truck is trying to put back the post that got plowed into by a speeding car dead on right in our driveway. Just an hour ago…

We have a problem with speeders on our rural road. Not just people going too fast, I mean the small economy cars that have modified engines for street racing. They go by at all hours of the day and night but most especially around dusk and 2 or 3 in the morning.

One of those speeders (I heard the sheriff’s deputies talking about the modified exhaust) revved his engine a full 2 seconds after going around the curve just before the straight-away by our house, and I looked up from my show and out the window in annoyance and so I was watching when this black Nissan smashed right into our mailbox and sent it flying and then the huge (8 inch across) metal pole stuck over 3 feet in concrete to hold our gate– which ALSO went flying. He knocked down at least 2 trees and hit another hard enough to snap it OFF over 20 feet UP in the air!

I screamed, because I thought I just saw someone die or about to die on our property! I jumped and called for Cat and then got my shoes on and started running towards the accident, now in our front yard tangled in tree limbs and posts.

I heard the guy– alive– gasping for breath in deep, pained harsh inhalations. [Which Cat caught on video-- and he sounds anguished...] Cat was calling 911, and I yelled to the man to stay where he was, we were getting help. A neighbor studying to be an EMT stopped and called it in [he was actually driving a hopped up speed-modified car right behind the guy, they may have been racing each other, ironically enough] within a minute and in 4 minutes we had 5 ambulances and at least 7 cop cars lining our road! I can say our emergency services are no slackers, that’s for sure! Another guy riding a bike was also an EMT and HE stopped and was holding the guy, who hit his head and took a deep puncture wound to the side of his chest (a LOT of blood…) but he was conscious the whole time. As he woke up more and more (he was dazed from hitting his head to begin with) he was sort of gasping and screaming in pain, and they had to hold him until they could pry the door open. Within 8 minutes they had him out, and he was able to stand up and then lay down on a stretcher.

I made my eyewitness report okay, but for those first few minutes I could barely breathe. There was no smell of alcohol, but he did have some gun club pamphlets in his car, so the cops were looking for one, but did not find one. But the guy has a vanity plate of someone who does street racing and brags about it and again, I heard the deputies discussing it. They suggested we go to city hall to reduce the speed, but these speeders are already going 70 or 80 mph on twisty 2 lane roads, I highly doubt they’re much interested in the law!

Anyway–! So, that was today’s drama! Crazy.
