Sleep's New Best Friend: Thrash!

It was an eventful Labor Day weekend– and we labored!

I painted as reported before, but Reese and Sleep were busy with working on the land.

One of the tribal things is sharing resources. Reese has begun a new business that is taking off– she sells witchy stuff like tarot cards and her own dream catchers. Anyways, she’s making a decent profit, especially for such a new retail “store” that sells mainly at festivals and conventions around the Portland area and along the I5 corridor and along the coasts. Anyways, she wanted a power tool that could take down blackberry briars. They are the bane of the Pacific Northwest– and grow out of control everywhere. Worse, they have thorns and are nearly impossible to keep in check, even with poisons — and we refuse to allow poison on our land!

Solution? She bought a $400 machine that’s like a weed-whacker on steroids. It requires a back harness and extra straps to control, and it’s got a metal blade that looks like a throwing star, only it’s as big as a wrestler’s hand. Sleep took on the task of clearing out briars in the areas leading up to the derelict mobile home, and he loved it! He was grinning ear to ear as he swept his new toy from side to side, decimating the vines, which had climbed up trees up to 25 feet off the ground! Then he and Reese pulled those tree vines down and cut things up and stored them in the chicken pen to dry so we can grind them up later.

The only problem is that Sleep should have worn safety glasses. (MEN. I swear, why don’t they take precautions?) He got a teensy, tiny sliver in his eye that got infected, and he has to see a doctor about it. It could take a specialist to get it out… it’s between his eye and his eyelid. Yikes!

Regardless, Sleep named the new machine “Thrash” as that is a Heron Hold tradition. We have Bumbles the tractor-mower and Rumbles the wood-chipper. Thrash is the latest edition. She (??) is a bad bitch and will be shared between the Tribe’s households to keep blackberry vines in check. A prospect that Sleep now looks forward to intensely!
