An Egg For Njord, An Imp For Me, & A Story For You

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Last month I told Sleep about my vision regarding the Norse god of coastlines and shipping wanting me to give him an offering of something from my bedroom. I hadn’t been well enough to walk the mile to the state park where I was to do this deed, so Sleep offered to drive me there. The walk from the parking lot was a lot shorter– maybe a little over a quarter mile to the spot I needed to get to.

I took him up on the offer!

I had yet to check my room to find the perfect sacrifice to give this particular god. I kept thinking maybe a small quartz crystal or something? I couldn’t see what the object was in that vision.

So I tried to remember where that object was located in that vision… a small drawer in a little cabinet I use to keep perfume and some of my pagan treasures was what I recalled. I opened the drawer in question and…

… right on top was a painted wooden egg back from my Circle of the Sapphire Flame days, painted by Gerick, for the element of “Water”. It depicted a ship on the ocean, a coastline, women pouring water, and dolphins cavorting in the sea! OMG!! That really was the perfect offering to Njord!

It represented a sacrifice for sure, though, because it’s from my personal history in a witches’ coven. I don’t let go of those items easily, if ever! But this one had the energy Gerick put into it, and surely it was okay to release that, right?

I picked it up. I wondered if this was what Njord had in mind… it seemed perfect, but how could I be sure?

And then I looked down, right under where this egg had been, and saw something that blew my mind into a thousand pieces…

it was the pendant of an imp I got from Rita Norling, the Hollywood witch of the 60s, who was a mentor of mine in my late 20s and early 30s. I knew for a fact I accidentally left it (him) behind when I moved out of the Windy Firs house I shared with Gerick until our divorce. I was SO upset at my mistake that I looked through my belongings over a dozen times and it was quite clear I fucked up and lost my pendant forever. This was very bad, because it was no ordinary pendant…

Here comes a necessary story:

Back when Rita and I were practicing witchcraft together, she offered me one of the last of the very special items she had left from when she ran a store in Hollywood. She specialized in spellcrafted ware. She did magick on her merchandise, you see. The little imp wasn’t just any necklace, he was a spirit she drew into the pendant to use for… mischief making. She really didn’t want to give me the pendant at first, but I was drawn towards the little guy. I could see the aura around it was bright, and I could feel the personality of the being (?) that was attached to it. Rita was a “Gray” witch who wasn’t ethically against minor curses or spells that interfered with free will, like love spells. She didn’t think I could handle something so… not “White” like my own brand of magick. But I had a notion, a feeling, an intuition that I was the safest place for the Imp spirit. I wouldn’t waken him unless mightily provoked!

I took him home, named him “Mikzelplik” after a character on the Superfriends animated show, and regularly fed him energy. Mostly, he was asleep or in stasis, but I could sense him there.

If you haven’t worked with inhuman spirits, this story sounds… not possible maybe? But just know that many, many people around the world do not share the materialistic dogma of the so-called “rationalists”. And it’s okay if you doubt what I say here, just know that this is how I approached this view of reality. I kept Mikzelplik around just in case I would need to stir up a little trouble someday…

Years and years passed, and I never woke my imp up. But then my divorce happened in 2015-’16 and it got ugly. And I was SO angry!! Out came my imp. I woke him up and… I fed him tons of energy to direct crazy stuff at my husband and the twinks in the back yard. I put Mikzel in the window sill, rather hidden, but facing the back yard. When I did this, all hell broke loose back there! No one was ever hurt, but that’s not what this imp does. He scares people. He plays nasty pranks. I wasn’t sure that my partnership with a very minor demonic-like entity would ever come to much, but I was astonished at the results and lost my doubts!

There were seven foot tall shadow people walking around, disembodied voices, objects moved, balls of light zipping around, weird characters that appeared and disappeared (like a short, fat person wearing a HUGE white cowl.) It was non-stop magickal tormenting for the boys in the back! It never went any further than that, but it helped me discharge a LOT of hostility, and I was grateful for my little imp’s hi-jinks! When Gerick finally reigned in his nasty behavior, I stopped feeding and focusing Mikzelplik and the crazy haunting of the back yard ended. (The house where I lived NEVER had ANY weirdness paranormally the entire time things were going apeshit just feet away, except for a couple of phantom phone calls to the police.)

However… when I was packing to move, I kept forgetting to pack my imp pendant, and the spirit that went along with it. I would see him in the windowsill just before a shower or something and think to myself, “I need to pack him when I get out of the shower,” but then forget by the time I was done. Eventually, everything was taken to Cat’s home at Ghost Lake, but the pendant was left behind! Not only did I feel guilty because it was my responsibility to look after this thing carefully, but also if Gerick didn’t pack it when HE moved a couple of years later (and if he did find it, he’d KNOW what I did!), the next people to move in and find it could get into trouble because of it. I was a bad, bad witch…

When I realized that I forgot Mikzelplik, I frantically went through my things, hoping beyond hope that I remembered incorrectly. I don’t actually have that much stuff anymore, so the areas to search were limited in scope and it’s been clear now for YEARS that I lost that pendant!

Yet… in a small drawer that I have opened and gone through countless times over the last 6 to 7 years and knew for a fact did not have this pendant in it– there he was! My Mikzelplik imp pendant, sans chain. Which is interesting. I would never separate out the chain, and in fact would have stored it with my other jewelry, so the absence of it was telling. It appeared that in some weird way, I had a magickal item returned to me– teleported or apported somehow.

That’s two things now that have been returned that I knew were lost. (The other being a pewter figurine for D&D games that a cat dropped down a heating vent and I never could get back.) The timing of the return with my picking up the perfect gift for Njord was telling. In magickal culture, that’s a very direct and vulgar type of obvious breaking-normal-reality magick that is very, very rare!

I took the hint, after freaking out with relief and happiness! I grabbed the egg, showed everyone my returned pendant and told the story to Sleep that I just wrote above, and we went to the state park.

It was a high tide just starting to go down, thus pulling things away from shorelines, and the perfect time to do my thing. I went to the spot I saw in the vision and tossed my wooden egg into the Puget Sound. It floated of course. A single seagull landed a few feet away from it and called out, just like in my vision, and then– standing there– I got another, spontaneous vision! This vision was cinematic and clear: someone who needed proof of Njord would be by the shore at some point in the future and find the egg I tossed in as a gift from this god. Because it is so clearly about his area of interest, they would know their partnership with the Norse god was real. So my offering was a part of a greater plan. Pretty neat!

I told Sleep what I saw as we returned to the car, and my mind was reeling! That necklace being returned to me was a proof that this particular Norse god was serious and he did me a favor, so that I would do him a favor, and so on in a chain. I guess the guy is recruiting? I’ve heard some interesting things from people who worship (or work with) the Norse gods. They’re preparing for the world to go wonky more actively than most other pantheons I guess. I wanted to learn more about them, and a more modern form of Heathen paganism, for myself at some point in the future, but this all happened when I was just a couple of chapters into a book about Heathenism and the Norse gods. I had even put it down for several weeks at the point I had the weird vision I wrote about last month.

I know this sounds unbelievable. I can look at Mikzelplik from where I’m sitting writing this and I STILL can’t believe he got returned somehow! I’ve had shit disappear spontaneously, so I guess it’s possible for things to appear as well, but the part of me who thinks in terms of our dominant cultural paradigm in when such things are “impossible” can’t reconcile the truth of it. “Surely,” says that part of me, “you must of just missed putting it in that drawer.” Except I KNOW I’ve gone through that drawer multiple times, even specifically looking for the imp pendant, and it’s not possible it’s been there the whole time. I go back and forth, over and over, and I have to conclude that something really crazy and cool happened to return something very valuable to me.

I gotta say, this Norse god delivers! I mean, I wasn’t expecting such clear and concise instructions and a freaking REWARD for following said request! Damn. I mean… fuck me. I’m relieved and happy and now I want to learn more about Heathenism and the Norse gods (beyond the Marvel Universe version at least, LOL!)

Thank you Njord! You got my attention!
