Cat's New Job At Dot Matrix

She finally did it!

After 10 years at “PagePerfect” (a web-to-print software company) which included a congratulatory plaque and over 5 weeks vacation (who does that anymore, right?) and the ability to work from home full time… Cat put in her 2-weeks notice and began a new job at a very modern industrial print shop near Seattle!

Clearly, for someone on the spectrum for whom change is hard, leaving a company that had all the benefits of her old job meant something had to be drastically wrong somewhere.

Essentially, as one of the programming code “builders,” Cat couldn’t help noticing that the short-sighted (and narcissist– so not subject to correction) boss was emphasizing sales over keeping their software updated and free of bugs. Over the last 5 years especially she noticed a great neglect that was making her own job more about fixing problems in their own software than delivering product to customers. Cat said her boss was selling the sizzle of a steak that had rotted off the plate! It bothered her… on a huge level!

She let friends know starting last year that she was looking for new employment… and that led to a friend at PagePerfect, who was ALSO looking for new employment, and for the same reason, to find the opening at “Dot Matrix” a printing company. She’d have to go back to commuting instead of working from home, and start back at just 2 weeks vacation, but it offered what she was already making at least and it was a growing company, rather than circling a drain down to its own demise.

Cat was given a call back right away, and then an interview, and then a second interview. Then she was hired, and she even got paid more than they were offering, because her skill set was so perfect. She had worked at printshops before– for newspapers and more, but her web-to-print experience over the last 10 years was what they were needing!

She started Monday of this week, and I’m happy for her, no question. Her old job was stressing her out to the point she could barely deal with it. (And I got really sick of listening to her complain!)

I’m also happy for myself, because I get time away from Cat. I love her, but our home is more… tense… with her in it all of the time. I know Mike feels the same way. We need a break from our picky Princess!
