A Friend's Friend Dies & I Get A "Pop-In"

On Friday, a young man I met many years ago at Faerieworlds, a best friend and former boyfriend of Odyssey, died from super aggressive thyroid cancer. He was only in his mid-30s and it was far, far too young. My heart aches for his family and friends, because he was a very sweet person and I really liked him, though our time together was quite brief.

Oddy came by Heron Hold after the weekend to release and process everything with me. He spent more and more weekends this year going over to help his sick friend out and then the last few days of last week because it became clear that time was growing short. He was helping out with the support of his friend, and allowing himself to invest fully in the process of end-of-life care as more and more things stopped working on the cancer patient. He reports he was full of love the entire time, and it meant a great deal to him to share that time with his former boyfriend.

Which I think is beautiful, but it’s not how most people approach death. Most of us run away from it, even when it’s not us who is dying! Our culture encourages everyone to think we live forever– and that doesn’t help deal with these types of situations.

I was happy to have Odyssey over to talk about things and share thoughts, but one tidbit was especially noteworthy to me:

The night after the young man died, I was relaxing and about to go to sleep, when all of a sudden I got a distinct portal popping sensation by my right ear. By that, I mean I could sense a spiritual doorway being opened right by my head. I could feel it… but it’s hard to describe. It was smallish, and what came out of it was a golf-ball sized spherical presence that I associate with spirits who have crossed over– but then crossed back. (Ghosts, by contrast, seem to have an astral body rather than appearing as a ball of spirit– not always, but that’s often the case.) It occurred to me that it might be this young man, as I didn’t know anyone else who died very recently (and no one later as I checked) but the WHY of it eluded me. Why would this guy I meant ONCE for a weekend come visit ME?

The presence was very clear and I was relaxed, but I felt a little awkward. I said, “Hi” but little else because– what to say to a presence? I could not identify who it was, only that someone was there, lingering a foot from my head! I didn’t feel scared though, and soon began to drift to sleep.

Later, I told Oddy all about it, and it seems he’s had a similar pop-in type of thing happen for HIM with ANOTHER friend who died before. The one who died on Friday KNEW about that story, and maybe visiting me was a way to verify something for Odyssey. I’ve seen and felt portals open before, but not like that. I’ve had spirits visit me before, but not by popping in right next to me and then… just hanging out for several minutes! So, this experience matching Oddy’s seems like it’s own thing, a message for my friend, rather than for me. I’m known to be pretty comfortable with spiritual experiences, so there was little worry of scaring me.

I guess I get to add this specific set of circumstances to my list of experiences, but if so– I’m glad it was useful in helping a friend deal with the death of his friend. It’s subtle, but I know what I felt! At this point, I’ve learned to believe myself, especially when I’ve never heard of anything quite like that nor had it happen before. I literally felt that spirit pop into our reality from another, it was very distinct! Odd, but interesting.

Mostly, though, I hope it gave my friend Odyssey some comfort to hear about it, and I’m happy to have participated in helping these 2 friends.
