Who Wants To Merely Survive?

Today’s post is bit of philosophy I guess – a high level view of prepping as to the minutiae we often get into.

Lately I’ve been thinking about SHTF situations, Bug-Out Bags, and all kinds of things survival related.

The basic premise of  prepping is, “We want to survive whatever is coming our way.”  It doesn’t matter what that disaster is:  whether it’s a man made societal crash or a natural diaster, we want to be ready for it.  We want to survive.

But we all want more than that don’t we?  After all, surviving something is merely coming out on the other side alive.  You might be hungry, skinny, sick, dehydrated, or whatever, but at least you’re alive.  If that’s our only option then yeah, I opt for survival.  But if by prepping I can come out on the other side healthy and happy guess which one I’m going to try and achieve?

Being prepared can mean a lot of different things, such as making sure your spare tire has air in it and you have a jack in your vehicle and you know how to use it.  Or you stay in shape because a SHTF situation could likely mean you have to do something physically difficult.  It could mean that you’ve got a bug-out bag fully stocked and ready to go.  Maybe you have a couple of thousand dollars buried on the North 40 for the big money crash.  These are all components to prepping.

If something big happens I don’t want my family to suffer because I didn’t take the time to properly prepare.  I want them to be comfortable with full bellies and to feel safe and secure.  ”Surviving” is ok, but I want more than just to survive.

I want to thrive.
