How to Prep on a Budget

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Many people think that prepping is difficult (or even impossible) without the money. This is one of the reasons why a lot of people don’t even start prepping, even if they are aware that they should.

However, one can be successful at prepping even on a limited or tight budget, one only needs to know the right thing to do. To start, make sure that you only buy the things that are necessary to you and to your family in the time of emergency. The aim of a prepper is to survive or get through a disaster or sudden difficulty, not to live luxuriously in the midst of a crisis. (IF you can even live long enough to enjoy what ‘luxury’ you are able to stash, most likely you’ll get killed soon enough if you do not prep right). As I always say: keep it simple survivor and be smart at prepping.

Here are some tips on how you can prep on a budget…

List Of Your Family Needs

Make a list of things that your family needs, make sure that you only buy the important things and not waste your money on unnecessary stuff. Items that are important for your survival should come first: food, water purification, first aid kit, prescription meds, security or self-defense, etc. Before buying, make sure to check the things that you already have to avoid buying these things again.

Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk is also a good thing to do when prepping on a budget. Storing bulk items such as rice, oats, beans and other nonperishable foods can be helpful when unexpected events happen. You can also store fruits and vegetables, just make sure to store these foods properly. Store only the food items that you will actually eat. There is no sense stocking up on a foreign food item just because it is cheap.

Look for Discounts

Having discounts on items that you need to buy is a good way to save money. You can find discounts on items such as toothpastes, soap, deodorant, bandages, rubbing alcohol, nonperishable foods, and many more. Using coupons is also a great way to save money when prepping on a budget.

Spend More Time Not Money

Spend more time in planning your prep. By planning carefully, you will be able to figure out what you need to prep for. For example, if you live in a flood prone area, why should you prep for tornadoes if these are unlikely to happen? Plan how to make use of your available storage area. Storing water can take up too much space but if you know a safe place in your area where you can get water, perhaps you can store just water for drinking so you have more space for other items.

Don’t Buy, DIY!

If you can do it yourself or make it yourself, then you don’t have to buy. There are many DIY projects for preppers that can save you money and still get you prepped enough. You can make your own survival gear, food items, hygiene items and household items. Check out this blog post that lists ‘how to’ articles that you may find helpful.

Learn Survival Skills

Stock up on survival knowledge if you are short on funds. Learning everything you can about surviving will ensure that you have a better chance at surviving when SHTF.

Do you still think that prepping is difficult on a budget?

Start prepping now because you never know when the next crisis will occur.
