Baking Soda!

As a “prepper”, one has to take into consideration a verity of questions when picking things for your supply.  What products do you need to have in your supply?  How long will this product last?  How much of it will you need to have?  How can you make this product last as long as possible?

One thing to consider is to pick products that have a dual purpose or one that can be used for many different kinds of things.  Baking Soda! A great nonfood item to have in your supply when the SHTF, or any time.  Baking Soda is very versatile. Baking Soda, also known as Sodium Bicarbonate and is derived from a natural occurring mineral, and is one of the safest and most versatile substances around It is a great staple to have for cooking and baking, but it also has many other nonfood uses.

Baking Soda is a great product to use for MANY Cleaning Jobs. It neutralizes odors chemically, not just covering them up. And baking soda has no “chemical” odor!  It is also soft enough to use as an abrasive cleaner to scrub almost anything.

• Remove tape residue: Make paste with one part baking soda and one part water.  Work paste over tape.  Gentle enough to use on most surfaces.
• Clean bathrooms and kitchens:  Sprinkle on a clean damp cloth and wipe sinks, counters, and tubs down.  To remove tough stains, make a paste with 2 parts baking soda and 1 part water.  Let soak for 15 minutes.  It should pull out the stain.
• As a detergent for cloth dipers: 1 cup baking soda in 2 quarts water.  Let diapers soak.  It will remove stains and smells.
• Cleans mattresses and carpets:  Sprinkle on mattress or carpet and leave for ½ hour.  Vacuum up.  It will pull out smells and help keep dust mitts away.  It should be done once a month.
• Wash produce: Sprinkle on a clean damp cloth and wipe produce off with it.  Baking Soda is safe enough to not harm any produce but strong enough to remove dirt and residue.
