Don’t Rely Completely On The Government – Adopt The Prepper Mindset!

In the event of a disaster, it is but natural for citizens to expect help from their government.

However, in terms of your own survival, the only one you should rely upon is YOU!

Every government undertake measures in preparation for any crisis that might engulf a nation: they allot budgets for calamities, disaster relief, emergency response and rescue operations. But if you think that the government is fully prepared and equipped to pull the country out of a large scale disaster, you are very much mistaken!

The fact is, the government does NOT have the capability or power to ensure everyone’s safety, as already demonstrated by past events.

Also, do not put too much faith on technology. Urban dwellers enjoy a lot of comfort because living is made easy by modern infrastructures run mostly by computer systems. An industrial control system called SCADA controls electrical power transmission and distribution, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, large communication systems, transportation systems, oil and gas pipelines, wind farms, and civil defense siren systems.

Computers have become more efficient than humans in making sure that public facilities are running well and problems are detected quickly. But the over computerization of infrastructures also made them all the more vulnerable.

In the event of a calamity like a hurricane, flood or earthquake, these industrial control systems could fail and even with backup systems, the consequences would still be huge: water will stop coming out of taps, there will be a high risk of water contamination if water treatment fail, there could be no power for days, there will be widespread communication failures. What will city dwellers do if they suddenly have no access to water and they have none stored, if the food in the fridge spoil and the supermarkets are emptied out by looters, if they cannot call for help because their telecom service is down?

They’d wish they were better prepared, better equipped to face a sudden crisis but then it would be too late even for regrets.

So adopt the prepper mindset and start getting ready because…

1. It is necessary – disasters do happen, they are a part of our existence and the only way to get through any crisis is to be ready.

2. It is your duty – we have a duty to protect our family, ourselves and whoever we can.

3. It is the right thing to do – if you are fully capable to make preparations to ensure your own survival and that of your family, do it. Leave the government and other sectors to tend to those who really have no means or those who did nothing to prepare.

With the right mental attitude, you will be able to see things in a better perspective and realize that in the state our world is currently in, life altering events can actually happen and they can happen anytime.

Be realistic. Be prepared. Adopt a prepper mindset!
