Disasters — natural or caused by humans. Perhaps warnings are given out and you have time to prepare. Others strike when you least expect it. What happens in the aftermath? Are you truly prepared to survive after a wildfire has swept through your town, leaving nothing but ashes? What would you do if raging waters suddenly left you stranded for weeks? If the utilities were shut down would you be able to start a fire to keep warm and cook your food? Do you have an ample supply of medications and first aid supplies?

Have no fear! I have compiled a list of what I consider the best emergency essential oils to have on hand.

A quick refresher for those just joining us, certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils are a concentrated plant extract that are 50-70 times more powerful than herbs. They are completely natural and safe to use aromatically, topically or internally to address root causes of health and wellness concerns at the cellular level.

Essential Oils to GET Before a Disaster:

One little drop goes a long way. And because essential oils are effective in promoting healing in more than one area of concern, your first aid kit won’t be overloaded with bottles that target only one health concern.

Oregano

For disinfecting and and cleansing. Strong antibacterial, antiseptic and antiviral properties. Effective for fungal infections, candida, inflammation, MRSA, viral and staph infections and parasites. If used topically, dilute with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut, almond or olive oil) as oregano is a hot oil.

Lavender

For soothing and calming. Use topically on all types of burns and skin irritations. Also great for headaches, insomnia, rashes and topical wounds (cuts and scrapes). Can be used undiluted on the affected area or in a spritzer.

Clove

For toothache and mouth pain. Using a Q-tip, rub one drop around a sore tooth or the gum.

Melaleuca

for soothing and healing of acne, bacterial, fungal or viral infections, infected wounds, inflammation. Can be used undiluted, directly on the affected area.

Lemon

For purifying and cleansing. Can take internally with water as a antioxidant and detoxifier, to soothe a sore throat, or works extremely well as a cleaning agent especially with grease.

Lemongrass

For aching muscles, fluid retention and repelling insects. Add 10 drops of lemongrass to 1oz of witch hazel in a spray bottle for a natural insect repellant.

Peppermint

For soothing digestive and respiratory problems. Use for motion sickness, sinus congestion, headaches and fevers.

Frankincense

For calming, revitalizing and uplifting. Use for headaches, coughs, infected wounds and immune support. If in doubt, use Frankincense.
