4 Top Rated Survival Knives (One Is Even Under $14)

In any survival situation having a good knife can be the difference between life and death.

It’s one of the top 3 things every single person should have in their Bug Out Bag.

The problem is:

There’s a lot of misinformation out there.

Folks will tell you that you need to buy outrageously priced knives so that they can make a quick buck.

The reality is – you don’t have to spend a fortune to buy a good survival knife.

What I thought I’d do is write about my 4 top rated survival knives.

There’s a bit of a spectrum here on price and functionality.

But you can be sure of one thing:

Each and every one of these knives I personally own and have used many, many times out in the wilderness.

So, let’s get started!

Survival Knife #1 – Blackbird SK-5 Survival Knife

I love this knife.

Designed by survivalist Paul Scheiter it meets all the criteria for being one bad ass knife for any survival situation.

Need to strike a fire steel rod?

No problem.

The Blackbird has a very solid spear point tip and an angle grind on the back of the blade that is perfect for that.

There is a levelled pommel that provides enough surface area for light duty pounding.

On the handle, The Blackbird has a slot that you can use to attach a wrist leash.

I love the grip (you can tell it was designed by a survivalist).

It has been designed to prevent hot spots and helps prevent blisters that form on your hand after repeated handling of the knife.

Let’s talk about the blade.

Its 154 CM, made from high grade stainless steel.

I’ve had mine for a while now and it hardly requires any maintenance.

The blade holds a very good edge even thru strenuous cutting.

Survival Knife #2 – Becker BK2 Companion Knife

The Becker BK2 is the kinda knife I really love.

There’s no BS about it!

It’s got everything you need and nothing you don’t

Simple yet incredibly functional.

This is a classic no frills, workhorse survival knife.

Something you might not know (not too many people do)

You can actually remove the knives handles with a small allen wrench and you and inside you can store small items like fire tinder, fish hooks and fishing line.

The tang also protrudes from the bottom and can be used for pounding and batoning.

Survival Knife #3 – Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife

Here’s the thing…

I know that not everyone can afford to spend $70+ on a survival knife for their BOB.

So, the next 2 knives on my 4 top rated survival knives list are for you if you’re more budget conscious.

The first one is the Gerber Big Rock.

This is a VERY solid full tang knife that is outstanding in demanding situations.

It’s got a nonslip rubberized textured handle for a sure grip in almost any condition (I had to use it once in the pouring rain to help build a shelter).

It has a half serrated blade so you can use it for cutting or ripping.

I’ve used this knife hundreds of times and it never disappoints.

Don’t be fooled by how cheap this knife is…

Because it is awesome.

It’s not a full tang blade – but for this price you won’t find a better knife.

I’ve personally put this knife to the test in many different situations and I’ve never managed to destroy it!

Now, it doesn’t meet all the criteria for a survival knife so I won’t recommend it as your primary.

However, it’s an excellent backup blade.
