Dads, Their Kids, and 4 Wheelers!

By Ashley

Some of the proudest moments in a father’s life are when his kids learn to ride a bike, get their driver’s license, and when they graduate high school. In between those things, there are many things that dads do with their kids that not only teach the kids something valuable, but also make him very proud of them. Great ATV companies, like “IceBear”, make a product that does exactly that.

Buying your kid his/her first 4 wheeler is an exciting process. There are several things to consider before settling on a purchase. First, what is the intended purpose? Second, what size is right for your kid? Then, lastly, what color, style, and trim will your son/daughter want?

Yes, it’s true. An ATV can perform many various functions, but what do YOU and your kid need one for? The “US Titan YX” series ATVs are great for desert running and learning to ride on dirt tracks. “IceBear” makes more utilitarian 4 wheelers for kids. If you are a dad into racing and extreme sports, then the former may be preferred. On the other hand, if you are a dad who loves camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and all the various other “survival training” activities, then the latter would be better for your kids. Kids love doing things with their dads. Why not give them yet another reason to? I know I’m riveted when my son/daughter comes out of their room and says, “Dad, I want to go fishing.” Buying them an ATV will only make them want to partake in your favorite activities more.

Four wheelers come in all sorts of sizes. Personally, I started on a 110cc ATV. It was a great starting point and could easily get my 10 year old body over the same terrain my father was going over. The sizes continue as far up as you could possibly want to go. A teenager may be better suited for a 250cc ATV. However old your child is, be sure to choose an ATV that is not underpowered, but also that is not too much for him/her to handle. For example, the aforementioned “US Titan” in the 110cc option has 7hp. That’s a perfect number for a younger kid with little experience.

Once you have the purpose and size chosen, you are ready to move onto visual appeal. These ATVs come in all sorts of different packages. The “IceBear” we discussed earlier comes in red, blue, yellow, green, and pink. It also comes in those colors with camouflage patterns. They comes the next exciting part; shopping for riding gear. Every child who sits on an ATV should, at minimum, be wearing gloves, goggles, and a helmet. Anyone into survival tactics and techniques knows the three levels of life preservation; life, limb, and eyesight.

Just as the above example, ATVs are a great way to teach your kids the fundamentals of survival, and safety in general. They are an excellent way to enjoy time with your kids, while teaching them various skills and lessons. Another thing buying your son/daughter an ATV will teach them is basic mechanical maintenance. Eventually, they will get their driver’s license, and you will want them to know how to be at least somewhat self-sufficient. Learning to change a tire, change oil, and inspect a vehicle can all be started on an ATV.

Remember: Always wear a helmet when riding ATVs; both, you and your children.
