Oops! Anyone else done this? Especially winter camping.

- Dumb thing I did camping: packed up and went home.
- Yep, and I set a pair of hiking boots on fire trying to dry them…oops.
- Tried to dry my boots. They were so twisted, good thing we are canoe camping and not hiking!
- I think any real camper done that. Specially on neg nights. But it’s also things like these why I LOVE camping!!!!!
- Forgot my under-tent tarp, it rained, i slept in a puddle of water. #fail
- Yep have done that . Lol
- Do it every summer
- Been there . ….done that! No drinking involved . ….just really cold feet.
- watched a pair of “wet” pants burst into flames, then get tossed into the river, and then realizing keys to vehicle in the pocket as they floated downstream
- I think you haven’t truly camped until you melt your shoes.
- Has anyone NOT done that? might be a better question.
- Jup. Once set mine wooden clogs on fire! (I am from holland)
- Had a mate melt his sleepin bag next to the fire WHILE he was in it.
- They weren’t on my feet, but I definitely melted them. It was three miles from the trailhead on my second night at camp and it was the first time I’ve ever experienced hypothermia. I’ve learned my lesson since then and invested in waterproof bags and gortex shoes!
- And don’t forget pitching a tent next to a rising river lol
- On that note, be VERY careful around campfires with pants made of modern fabrics — I got a little too close to the camp fire in Death Valley, and the back of the legs of my new jeans MELTED. From what I could tell, they were woven with cotton in one direction, and a material that melted at relatively low temperatures in the other direction. I was left with cotton strips running up and down, and the fabric running cross-ways melted away. That and very hot legs!
- lol…almost!
- Lost a good pair of flip flops that same way
- Oh yes I did
- Thought tent post were extra weight I could do without. Oh yeah wind
- Yes, and it was two pairs of shoes on the same night!!!
- Melted the bottoms of my flip flops too. Oops!
- Done that, then the beach rocks and sand stuck to my shoes
