2 Minute Tip: Practice Makes Perfect

I recently had the opportunity to act in a play with my local community theater.  Although I was a theater major in college, I studied the tech end, not the acting end, and hadn’t acted in front of a real audience since grade school.  I included some pictures here to prove it really happened!

I was a little bit stressed out about this role.  Okay, a lot.  I put a lot of hours into learning lines and practicing songs and dance moves.  I even had to practice wearing heels!  In two and a half months of rehearsals, I only missed one rehearsal.

Opening night came and I walked out on stage and my mind went completely blank.  I had no idea what my next line was.  But guess what?  I opened my mouth and my line came out!  Why?  Because I had practiced and practiced and practiced.

So what does this have to do with preparedness?

Practice!!  You could have the greatest emergency plan in your head, but in an emergency when your head quits working, that plan could go right out the window.

Practicing emergency drills like fire drills, evacuations, cooking without power, and self defense creates muscle memory that can get you through an emergency when your brain isn’t working right.

It can also help you work out kinks in your plan before your life depends on it.

Practice can make an emergency slightly less stressful and help you respond in the best way possible.  So go be a star! Practice your emergency plan!
