Recently the Italian town of Amatrice was reduced to rubble following an earthquake. Almost 300 people died in the tragedy. Poor construction is to be blamed partly for such devastation, and reconstruction of many of the buildings is still on hold due to investigations. Relief aid has flowed in from all over the world.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg made a controversial $ 500 000 donation to the Italian Red Cross – in Facebook ads and made excuse statement; “We ran a ‘Safety Check’ the day of the earthquake and has been one of the most successful we’ve ever seen across the world.”

“Un Aiuto Subito” (A Help Now) is a crowdfounding campaign started to collect money to support the victims and the reconstructions of the areas hit by the earthquake.

Delegation of Amurt Italy is delivering aid on the quake-hit area of central Italy, and to identify a reconstruction project. The group, composed of the National President Paul Bocchi, the Coordinator Giacomo Boselli, President of Amurt Viadana De Cillis and volunteers are distributing basic necessities collected in the post-earthquake period. A van for delivery is offered free for use.

Many collection events that took place recently included mainly hygiene products, educational materials for children, long-life food – and medicines, thanks for the contribution by Ail Oglio Po.

The Amurt team will have meetings with the municipal representatives to define a reconstruction project – thanks to the numerous private donations of citizens, associations and companies. After evaluating the situation Amurt will choose a public utility project feasible in a short time and pay the bills directly in order to be sure of the effectiveness and transparency of actions.
