Wanted: Chief Permaculture Officer

We’re Hiring. 2017 is the year we want to take our food production systems to the next level. 

We’re looking for someone (or 2) experienced in with gardening and keeping chickens who is also interested in living a simple, off-grid lifestyle to keep us moving toward our goal of establishing a robust food production system. They will maintain our food system over the summer, as well as share their knowledge of permaculture and gardening with our students.

We run programs at the field school intermittently during the summer, but no one is there consistently during this time period. We are out guiding, teaching in other places, etc.

Duties: Permaculture, Gardening, Homesteading Tasks

Dates: June 4 – August 19, 2017 (11 Weeks). Longer duration possible

Hours Per Week: 10

Stipend: $15 per hour = $150/week, opportunity to run educational program for more $

Live on site (off grid, low tech, no charge) or nearby

Location: Masardis, Maine (zone 3b)

Great for a couple – won’t get lonely for companionship – or a local person. Life is pretty slow and quiet here.

Experience with gardening and farming is an absolute must. Experience teaching and working with people is a bonus.   

The Jack Mountain Bushcraft Field School is made up of 60 acres of forest and 2 acres of fields and ponds. Located along the Aroostook river with 3000 feet of frontage, we are actively experimenting with simple off-grid technologies in an attempt to live as sustainably as possible. We cook on rocket stoves, with the sun, or on open fires, have a humanure composting system, and create a variety of projects with materials from the forest using simple hand tools.

We operate a busy school and work with a lot of college students and military veterans. Our field school campus is drug and booze-free, and we’re committed to working hard every day. 

There are no wires coming into our place (electric, phone, internet). There is great cell reception  and associated internet (tower a mile away).

Duties will include upkeep on the gardens (weeding, watering, planting) and general homesteading tasks.

If it works and seems to be a good fit, it could grow into a farm manager and instructor position, offering classes on homesteading, permaculture, etc.

We have the space and the audience, as well as a stable and growing business. Now we’re looking for the right person to add to the team.

This is our first year offering this position.

Undesirable traits: Holier than thou attitude, lack of a sense of humor, immature, lack of experience, takes self too seriously.
