Integrally Suppressed Firearms
Most firearm enthusiasts have upgraded at least one of their beloved firearms in some way. There are countless modifications that can be made to improve appearance and performance; Hogue grips for a pistol, a new red dot sight for your AR15, a two-stage trigger upgrade for your Remington 700, there’s practically no end to the modifications you could make. It’s easy to justify spending money on an already awesome weapon. In fact, if you are like me, you have a list of upgrades that could cost a year’s salary to implement. Most recently I have wanted to build (or buy) a integrally suppressed firearm.
Have you ever heard of an integrally suppressed firearm? It’s a firearm that has a built in suppressor, as opposed to one that you screw on to the end of a threaded barrel. Integrally suppressed firearms are fairly common with Special Ops units around the world, but most popular civilian firearms don’t have that option when you buy them. Only a a few places sell firearms that do. Here is a list of links where you can get an integrally suppressed firearm of your own.
Integrally Suppressed Pistol

Silencerco has produced a integrally suppressed pistol that they call the Maxim 9. It has the back half of a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm and the front half is a custom receiver, barrel and suppressor. Silencerco is a powerhouse in the suppressor world, selling as much as 40% of the domestically bought to both private and government buyers. So they really know what they are doing.
The Silencerco Maxim 9 seems like something that you would see in a science fiction movie. It looks like it would be heavy and hard to shoot, but the front end of the pistol is mostly hollow, making the weight of the pistol only 10 ounces more than a full size M&P 9mm. Plus, the overall length of the pistol is shorter than a traditional screw on silencer configuration. The Maxim 9 is a very well designed integrally suppressed pistol.
Integrally Suppressed Ruger 10/22

In 2017 Ruger began offering a factory produced suppressed barrel when they introduced the Ruger Silent-SR 10/22 Takedown Integrally Suppressed Barrel. At just over $600 this is not an inexpensive purchase. Plus, it is not the full rifle. You must already own one of their 10/22 Takedown rifles to use this barrel, but if you do then this integrally suppressed barrel will snap right on in replacement. The Silent-SR lowers the sound of each shot down to an average of 113.2 dB with standard velocity ammunition, making your Ruger 10/22 Takedown extremely quiet.
Integrally Suppressed Bolt Action Rifles

Suppressed Weapon Systems and Dark Horse Arms modify popular bolt action rifle brands with their manufactured integrally suppressed barrels. The beauty of these rifles is that they appear like they are just the heavy barrel versions of these rifle models.
According to Suppressed Weapon Systems, these are the advantages of a integrally suppressed rifle:
- Sub MOA accuracy out of the box
- Zero chance of baffle strikes
- Superior sound suppresion over traditional suppressors
- Dissipates heat faster than traditional thread on suppressors
- Reduced recoil of up to 40% in large calibers
- No impact shift
- Serviceable
- No increase in back pressure
Integrally Suppressed AR
–insert AR rifle image here–
Several manufacturers have introduced integrally suppressed ARs. But the one that stands out is the Daniel Defense DDM4ISR. Chambered in the popular .300 Blackout cartridge. Because the suppressor is an integral part of the barrel, this AR is ready to shoot right out of the box.
The DDM4ISR’s integral suppressor extends the barrel to an NFA-required 16 inches in length, so this platform is not classified as a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) and therefore only requires a single tax stamp (for the suppressor). The suppressor’s lightweight outer tube is constructed of durable, heat-resistant metal alloys and coated with a protective high-temperature Cerakote-C finish, which is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and harsh environments. The suppressor is also user-serviceable, so its baffle core can be easily removed for periodic cleaning in order to maintain peak performance. – Daniel Defense
If you plan to build an AR with a integrally suppressed barrel, know that you will spend around $2000 just for the barrel. They are not inexpensive by any means. But available in all of the popular calibers.
Integrally Suppressed Shotgun
–insert shotgun image here–
Honestly I had never heard of a shotgun with a silencer. But as research goes, you sometimes find things that you didn’t know existed. Silencerco actually sells one they call the Salvo 12. Crye Precision makes a six round revolving cylinder bullpub shotgun called the Cyre SIX12. At several gun shows Silencerco has displayed a version that uses the Salvo 12 suppressor. But there is no timeline on actually production of the firearm. It is very Law Enforcement/Military minded. Not exactly a bird hunting shotgun.
Conclusion
As suppressors become more mainstream, firearm manufacturers will surely produce integrally suppressed models of their firearms. But until then, the links above will guide you to sites that offer these weapons. For now integrally suppressed firearms are not cheap. But if you can afford it, they are certainly worth the expense. Plus, you will certainly turn heads at the shooting range. And the obvious tactical advantage of these weapons is substantial.
