Under Bed Storage

In our recent discussion about totes the topic of storing stuff under a bed inevitably came up. Our friend Aesop wrote about it at some length.

I have experimented with having a big ole pile of survivalist stuff as the bed frame in a comedically 3.5-4 foot high bed. A couple years ago I tried the old ‘put the bed frame up on stuff” to lift it thing. That worked ok, till the first time I had ‘company’ over and it slipped off the supports.

At this point in my life I am not really interested in sorta working rigged up solutions. For under bed storage to work you need to be able to easily access the stuff (which means said stuff can’t be the support for the bed) by sliding it in/ out. Also the support needs to be stable. Rolling over in the middle of the night (alone or not) and having your bed fall down is not enjoyable.

I ended up purchasing a new bed frame in support of this effort. It should have sufficient clearance for the totes I recently purchased. Hopefully this will be an easy answer to the problem at hand. It should also, when combined with a bed skirt, provide a normal modern look.

If/ when I have proofed this setup I will probably talk about it some more.
