Craft Holsters Shoulder Holster Review

I’ve always wanted a shoulder holster.  The coolest action stars wore one when I was a little kid.  Who could forget Bruce Willis in Die Hard, or Don Johnson in Miami Vice.

Luke from CraftHolstes.com reached out to me and asked me to do a review on one of his holsters, and when I saw he had shoulder holsters, I had to have one.

I’ll explain a little more about the holster here with some pictures.

The holster has nice leather and workmanship throughout.  It feels thick and tough and fit everything very well.

The mag pouch is well constructed with two adjustment screws, two well fitted straps that snap in to a single snap each and work independently of each other.  The pouch is made from one piece of leather and molded to fit the mag perfectly.  I didn’t adjust or play with anything, it just worked and was really comfortable right out of the box.  I would like to see this much workmanship into some of the belt mag pouches I have.

Craft Holsters calls it a thumb break, but worked really well with my middle finger to disengage.  The extra piece of leather works very well and is big enough to snag with my finger but not so big that it was getting caught on other things.  The snap is super solid feeling, easy to snap, and easy to unsnap.  I find other holsters with the snaps that do not work half as well.

You can see that the part that holds the gun is a separate piece from the carrier.  The holster is held to the carrier with on screw, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue.  That one screw design is what lets the holster rotate out so you can get a better grip on the gun to present it on target.  The snap retention actually holds the entire holster more upright and helps retain the gun and keep the holster parts together.  It is quite a simple and genius design.

You can see the hardware is small and looks just big enough to hold the holster together. I have seen other holster that keep the hardware so big that it looks like I could use the screws to move my truck or repel by.  None of that is necessary on my carry holster and creates a bigger more bulky holster.  These seem to be just the right size for the job.  And the metal keeper is a really nice addition.

You can see how far this holster will adjust out or in, so it should fit almost everyone.

The back of the holster has a snap system that attaches the entire thing to your belt.  This is a necessity to get an easy and smooth dray, and keeps the holstered gun from swinging around when you walk.  Down side is you have to wear a belt, but the holster does work as suspenders too when attached properly.  There are three snaps to adjust the holster up and down in relationship to the belt.  You use the nylon buckle on the other side, under the mag pouch to get the exact fit you are looking for.  It took me minutes to adjust and never needs to be played with again.
