10 Great Survival Stories of Pets

We are not the only ones who can get stuck in situations where we need to use survival skills to stay alive. Animals can have also fall into this category, and in most situations, the best way for them to survive is to get help from us. I enjoy watching Animal Planet to learn more about the animals around us, but I have also seen some great survival stories of pets. They may be tragic to hear, but they end happily. Here are ten stories that are unforgettable for me:

• Plane Crash Survivor
Zulu went on a trip with his owner, who happened to be a pilot. During the flight, the single engine plane that they were riding in crashed unexpectedly into a tree. Though the pilot died in the crash, the terrier was found near the wreckage without as much as a scratch on his body.

• Dragged by Truck
Firu is an American Bulldog mix who was tied to the back of his owner’s pickup truck. As the activities of the night came to a close, the owner forgot that the pup was behind the truck. They got into the vehicle and drove over a mile with Firu being drug behind the vehicle. His skin and pads of his paws were torn from his body, but with the help of Ellen DeGeneres, this pup found a loving home.

• Blown Away
Tinker Bell is a little Chihuahua who was standing on the ground, minding her own business, when a 70 MPH gust of wind came along, picked her right off of the ground, and blew her nearly a mile away. It took two days for her owners to find her, but with the help of a pet psychic, she was able saved.

• Hit by Train
A little Shih Tzu was hunkered down between the rails of the train tracks, but the conductor was unable to slow the train when he saw him. He hoped that the dog was not hit, but on his way back, the dog was still on the tracks. Unfortunately, the dog started running on the track and got hit by the train a second time. The little guy did not have any major injuries, but he had a few cuts, an eye infection, and an abscessed paw.

• Thrown out a Window
Peggy was caught in the middle of a domestic dispute when the boyfriend of her owner picked her up and threw her out of a window that was on the fourth floor. She was severely injured with two broken legs, but luckily, the community pulled together to get her the help that she needed to recover.

• Spin in the Dryer
Fudge is a little kitten who jumped into the dryer to take a nap, but when her owner came back to turn the dryer on, she was unaware that the kitten was inside. Fudge was tossed in the hot dryer for five minutes, and after her tumble, she was unresponsive. Her owner gave her CPR to revive her. Today, she is doing quite well.

• Stuck in a Pipe
Piper is a kitten that got her name because she was found stuck in a PVC pipe. The only part of her tiny body that was free was her head, which allowed her to cry for help. She was dehydrated and had a broken paw, but luckily, she was found before any real damage occurred.

• Flushed Away
Luckily, puppies are small, but they cannot breathe under water. A little boy was giving his puppy a bath in the toilet when he accidentally flushed it. Fortunately, the sewage company was able to locate him about 20 yards from the home.

• Hit and Run Victim
Lulu was hit by a car, and when no one stopped to help her, she retreated to some nearby bushes. Luckily, she was found and rescued, but it was not until seven to ten days after the accident happened. She suffered five fractures in her legs, pelvis, and tail. The bones were reset, and she found a forever home where she feels safe.

• Embedded Shoelace
Kennedy was living under a school when she was found with a shoelace tied around her neck. The shoelace was so badly embedded in her skin; the site was infected. It was literally rotting away, so she also had a pungent odor. It took three hours to remove the shoelace, and after a few surgeries, she is fully recovered. Her new forever family now calls her Rosie.
