Men’s health is just as important as women’s health. As men and women have different hormones and bodies in general, it’s often important to focus on things that can be done naturally to aid that special guy in your life.
Herbal tinctures continue to gain in popularity especially among nature enthusiasts and holistic health lovers. And we don’t want to forget just how important natural health and wellness is to men and women alike. The use of plants for healing purposes goes back centuries and forms the origin of much of modern medicine. While natural remedies have always widely been in use, their popularity is increasing as people seek safer, more gentle alternatives to pharmaceutical medications, according to Ready Nutrition.
Tinctures are typically made by soaking herbs in alcohol for several weeks to extract the active components (phytochemicals) of the plants. After a few weeks, the herbal mixture is strained and the herb parts are removed, leaving behind the concentrated liquid. Alcohol is used because it is an excellent food-grade solvent and can extract herbal constituents (such as resins and alkaloids) that are poorly soluble in water. Another benefit of using alcohol as a solvent is that it is an excellent preservative that retains the freshness and potency of medicinal plants and greatly increases the shelf life of the tincture. Don’t worry – you won’t get intoxicated from the alcohol in tinctures.
Fresh or dried leaves, roots, bark, flowers, and berries may be used to make tinctures. They can be made from a single plant or a combination of plants.-Ready Nutrition.
Many common ailments can be aided and supported with the use of tinctures, including common men’s health concerns. Plants like the saw palmetto are often used as a natural benefit for men’s health. More specifically, the fruit of the saw palmetto is what’s used to support men’s health in herbal tinctures.
Serenoa repens, commonly known as saw palmetto, is the sole species currently classified in the genus Serenoa. It is a small palm, growing to a maximum height around 7–10 feet. It is endemic to the subtropical Southeastern United States, most commonly along the south Atlantic and Gulf Coastal plains and sand hills.
Ready Nutrition’s Saw Palmetto Organic Herbal Tincture supports men’s sexual health with clinically proven plant-derived medicines. Strengthen and tone the male reproductive system, promote healthy levels of the male sex hormone testosterone, and improve sex drive naturally.
Saw Palmetto is the main ingredient in RN’s tincture. This plant is used to help increase libido, as well as alleviate stress while strengthening the health of the prostate. One of the most common uses of saw palmetto is the treatment of BPH, a condition marked by the enlargement of the prostate. BPH is not considered a serious health issue, but it often causes symptoms such as the increased need to urinate. It also may lead to urinary tract infections and other complications.
Saw palmetto may also help prevent androgenic alopecia — a type of hair loss also known as male and female pattern baldness; in men and women, respectively. It’s thought to work by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), an androgen-type hormone believed to cause this form of hair loss. Higher levels of androgen hormones like DHT are thought to shorten the hair growth cycle and lead to the growth of shorter and thinner strands of hair. One small study reported that a daily 200-mg dose of saw palmetto — taken with another beneficial plant compound known as beta-sitosterol — reduced hair loss in 60% of men with androgenic alopecia compared to a placebo, according to Healthline.

Keep in mind that plant-based medicines are often not as effective as pharmaceuticals. But they are also quite a bit safer also. Contact a medical professional if you have any questions or concerns about any supplements. Remember that with natural remedies, more isn’t always better. Follow the suggested dosage guidelines on your bottle’s label. If you have questions about which dosage is right for you, seek guidance from a trained professional.
