If you are in the area of a Mass Killer what should you do after the killing has stopped? Here are some bullet points to think about:
Do you have people with you?
- Evac them away from the shooter and any other crowds
- Leave with them unless:
- You are involved, and/or
- You plan to help because you see a need and have the training to fill it:
- Do you have life saving skill?
- Can you triage a scene?
- Do you know enough to get others out and/or emergency personnel in?
- Hunting time is probably over… but you might have to.
If you are involved as a fighter:
- Keep other away from the killer
- Keep others away from the killer’s weapon(s)
- Take it and/or use it
- Hide it / render it inert
- Stand on it
- Leave it alone
- Bomb?
- Hostages
Create Distance
- More distance is more better
- As far as you can while still isolating the shooter
- Is he playing possum?
- What if he is a bomb/has a bomb?
Take Cover
- Bombs
- Position of advantage
- From everythign
Watch you six
- Do you need the gun in your hand?
- Cops are coming
- Other bad guys could be in the area?
- Other good guys could be hunting
Evacuate others away from the shooter and triage
- If you can walk, go that way
- Look around for anyone you can help, take them with you
- You are going to take command of the situation until somone else gets there
When the police arrive
- You are the victim
- Do what they tell you to
- No aggressive movements
- It might hurt
- If told to evacutate, go but don’t go far
- talk in simple terms, no specifics and no specific questions answered.
