Welcome to DAY 24 of our 15 Minute Prepping Projects series. Today we are going to bake bread! You can use fresh ground whole wheat or just regular all-purpose flour, but whatever you do it will be delicious.

Every day for the month of September we will celebrate National Preparedness Month by undertaking a small task to help us get more prepared. Do as few or as many days as you want. Jump in at any time. Do them out of order, or more than one in a day. And feel free to share what you are doing!

Today we are working one one of the most stereotypical things in the food storage world. We are baking homemade bread! Since wheat is the staple of most food storage plans it makes sense that you would need to learn the skills required to actually USE your wheat. So today we are going to practice making bread.

If you have a wheat grinder, and you already practiced grinding wheat earlier this month, it should be easy for you to make some whole wheat bread. If you aren’t set up for grinding whole wheat, you can easily make a delicious homemade bread loaf using just all-purpose flour. And if you don’t have a stand mixer or time to mess around with kneading bread I even have a recipe for you.

Check out your bread-making options below and make whatever one works for you based on what you have on hand!

BEST WHOLE WHEAT BREAD RECIPE

This one is the BEST bread recipe I have found using fresh ground whole wheat. It is spongy enough to be usable for sandwiches and it has that wholesome hearty goodness of whole wheat. It does require a few ingredients you might not have on hand so proceed with caution, but try it and you won’t regret it! This makes a HUGE batch so you can either half it or make some into pizza dough, cinnamon buns, etc.

HONEY WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

This is a basic simple recipe that makes one yummy loaf of bread. You can make it half and half with whole wheat and all-purpose flour or just make it with all white flour if that’s all you have on hand.

NO KNEAD ARTISAN BREAD

This recipe doesn’t need anything fancy, only FOUR ingredients! And the magic is in letting it sit for a long time. It’s a great one for a powerless emergency when you have limited kitchen appliance options to use.

EZEKIEL BREAD

If you are into healthy cooking, Ezekiel bread is a fun and tasty option, it uses a lot of different grains and legumes. Some people that are gluten intolerant are actually able to handle Ezekiel bread, especially if you do the full routine of sprouting the grains first. Give it a whirl, you might be surprised at how much you like it.
