My 2023 “Words” and Goals

After going through a pretty difficult divorce I went on a journey of self-improvement. I would read and listen to motivational books and podcasts daily and got so many great tips on how to love myself more and how to be the best me I can be. I started reading about people having a focus word for the year and I loved the idea! It’s something I’ve done every year for a while now and it really helps me be intentional with my mindset and my actions and where I put my priorities for the year. Some of my past words have been peace, love, purpose, and connection. I’ve loved striving to live up to those words each year.

I was listening to a goal-setting training this month and it actually encouraged people to choose THREE words and the way to choose is to think how you would want to describe yourself in ten years. I had already been thinking about the word SUCCESS for 2023 and this helped me add a few phrases along with it.

I recently did an exercise that had me write out what my life would like like if I was “successful” and it really made me re-think about things a lot. I love to work hard and I’m proud of my career but I feel like I’m winning at life when I have more time to spend with my kids, when my husband and I have time for each other, when my house is clean, when I am in good shape physically, when my preps are in order, etc.

So I wanted to focus on the word SUCCESS but have it encompass ALL areas of my life. Adding the word SEXY is because I have quite a few health and fitness goals on my mind this year (I’m going to try to run a triathlon for the first time, eek!) as well as some relationship goals with my hubby so those things go hand in hand with feeling sexy. haha. Hey I’m getting personal here on the blog today. I hope that’s ok!

And then finally SANE is the most critical word of the group because if I work hard and put so much time into reaching these goals and expectations I have for myself I can’t let myself get overwhelmed or leave no time to just enjoy life. I need to focus on meditation and self-care, on creating a peaceful environment in my home, and enjoying the crazy ride with 6 teenagers plus a sweet 11 year old in my home this year. Pray for me please!

So what does this all have to do with prepping you might ask? Well as I mentioned above, part of my definition of success is that my preps are in order. If I get out of debt, or get super skinny, or go on a dream vacation that’s all nice but I also want to feel like I am successful at having my family prepared for life’s emergencies big and small. I don’t want to focus too much on things that are less important, so this definitely has to be a priority for me if I want to feel like a success this year!

Prepping Goals for 2023

• Get my vegetable garden up and running
• Re-vamp my 72 hour kits for a family of 9
• Re-organize and re-inventory my food storage areas
• Practice more powerless cooking
• Fill my water barrel towers
• Update my prepare my life planner
• Revamp my recipe binders
• Get my freeze-dryer repaired so I can use it again
• Rebuild my supply of home-canned goods

Some of these tasks have been lingering since I moved across the country and this is the year they need to GET DONE. They have occupied space in my brain and worry-list for far too long.

• Develop some in depth online prepping classes
• Host in person meal-in-a-jar classes
• Develop more allergy-friendly recipes
• Update my Food Storage Made Easy book and checklists
• Daily posts on social media to share my progress and helpful tips along the way along with some fun behind-the-scenes details about my life and family
• Help more people get prepared!
