As the Pax Americana recedes, the international system will revert to a harsh, Darwinian reality.

I can’t shake the feeling that the world is headed to a consolidation of power, or to an era of the dissolvement of dysfunctional nation-states into small independent ethnic areas.

Over the next three decades, as many as 30 to 80 nation-states risk losing functional sovereignty, economic independence, or territorial integrity.

The shift is being accelerated by the democratization of precision strike warfare, autonomous robotics, and low-cost drone swarms that render traditional, legacy security guarantees obsolete.

When multi-million-dollar interceptors are depleted trying to defend against thousands of mass-manufactured autonomous attack drones, small and medium powers can no longer outsource their survival to an overstretched superpower thousands of miles away.

In this emerging landscape, sovereignty will not be preserved by international treaties or paper alliances.

It will belong strictly to nations that establish four non-negotiable pillars:

1. A Willing, Unified Population: Modern conflict has proven that elite equipment is useless without the national will to fight.

States characterized by demographic collapse, internal polarization, and societal apathy will fragment under hybrid warfare long before conventional armies cross their borders.

1. Fortified, Absolute Border Integrity: In an era of mass migration, asymmetric infiltration, and proxy incursions, states unable to govern and physically seal their land, air, and maritime frontiers forfeit internal security and self-determination.

2. Sovereign Robotic and Kinetic Edge: Dependence on foreign supply chains for critical munitions during active conflict is a fatal vulnerability. Nations must master localized production of autonomous drones, electronic warfare suites, air-defense networks, and counter-autonomy swarms.

Chinese port shutdowns (like Ningbo-Zhoushan and Yantian) during COVID-19 severely disrupted U.S. supply chains:

• Semiconductors: Stalled auto and electronics manufacturing, creating massive vehicle deficits.

• Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs): Caused critical prescription drug and antibiotic shortages.

• Medical Supplies: Restricted essential PPE, syringes, and testing materials.

• Industrial Parts: Halted factory assembly lines due to missing intermediate fasteners and electrical components.

Countries that don’t know how to manufacture will not EXIST. The Trump administration is re-industrializing.

4. Energy Independence and Industrial Depth: Without domestic baseload energy, refining capacity, critical mineral access, and the baseline manufacturing capacity to replace destroyed materiel, a nation’s military capability is measured in days, not years.

The geopolitical landscape of the coming decades will divide the world into two categories: self-reliant fortresses capable of defending their own airspace and waters, and protectorates whose borders exist entirely at the mercy of stronger regional predators.
