Tasmanian Political Update

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The landslide victory in Queensland last weekend has ramifications for Tasmania. In the island State, the Labour Government led by Premier Lara Giddings shares power with the Greens with their leader being Nick McKim. Such a result would be most unlikely to repeat itself in Tasmania, operating as it does under the Hare-Clark system of voting with his proportional preferences. Nonetheless, Lara’s days are numbered. She can hold on to the reins until 2014, but there are rumblings from within. Looking over her shoulder is fellow Labourite, David O’Byrne. Lara was seen moping around the Parliament corridors last week, calling David sexist and mumbling words to the effect, “just because I am a woman”. The night of the Long Knives has arrived.

Laura, who was at one time Treasurer as well as Premier, has spent more than one billion dollars than what the State produces. In other words her administration has been disastrous and Tasmania is on the verge of bankruptcy. Everything the government touches has proven to be a disaster. Business confidence is low; the timber industry is virtually destroyed, peoples’ morale is low, while in contrast the cost of living is high, particularly, with electricity, water, food and petrol. Where once Tasmania had one of the cheapest power in the world, because of natural Hydro energy, the State now has the eleventh highest cost of electricity in the world, not just in Australia.

Meanwhile Lara struggles with a plastic smile as best as she could. Leading the charge for homosexual marriages she and the Greens think this act of trendiness will gain support at the polls. What the people are looking forward, however, is some type of leadership. In short, Lara is incompetent and so left wing it is not funny. Her marriage with the Greens has been an absolute failure. It should be said of the Greens in Tasmania is that, while they do enjoy about 13 per cent support, a lot of that comes from trendy mainlanders who have come to Tasmania to make it their home. Living in either pent houses or lovely country dwellings, they have little understanding how the real world operates. The percentage of mainlanders living in Tasmania is quite high. Generally speaking, both Labour and Liberal voters holds the Greens in utter contempt. In short, the Greens have helped to destroy Tasmania, both economically and socially.

So what of the future? The Opposition led by Will Hodgman MHR is son of the well known and colourful politician, Michael Hodgman AM QC. Will is part of a Tasmanian political family dynasty. There is little doubt that he will form the next government. The current Labour Government knows that they are in their death knell. Lara, leading this rat-bag of administrators who in your right mind you would not employ if you were in business, may survive until the next general election, but the odds on is that she will be dumped from within. This being the case, will see the last lady standing as a State Premier and then we just have to do the same to Julia.
