Unions Fill Assembly Democrat Coffers

I’m shocked, shocked I tell ya… : ) This has been going on since the beginning of time. People choose to ignore it but god forbid, when the courts allowed corporations to donate to campaigns, the left fell off the ladder trying to make as much noise as possible to stop it. They say corporations aren’t people? Unions are corporations that should be held to the same type of scrutiny. Unions lining the pockets of Democrat politicians is nothing new, they buy their votes all the time. They are one of the biggest special interests groups in Albany.

ICYMI: Here is the second item from today’s “Albany Insider” column. (This is the full item, some of which did not run in the print editions):

Assembly Democrats, who are fighting Gov. Cuomo’s pension reform plan, received 20% of their $31.4 million in donations since 2009 from public and private  labor unions, according to an analysis done for the Daily News by the New York Public Interest Research Group.

The $31.4 million went to both the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee and individual Assembly Democrats.

“Several unions with with an intense interest in the debate over pension reform are among the most highest spending public interests in Albany,” NYPIRG’s Bill Mahoney said. “Albany’s richest special interests are able to buy access to legislators which ordinary New Yorkers can’t afford.”

Senate Republicans, who have embraced Cuomo’s call for a 401(k)-type option,  received just 8% of their $46 million in donations since 2009 from unions, the review found. The donations were made to the Senate Republican Campaign Committee and individual GOP senators.

Senate Democrats saw 13.34% of their total contributions come from unions while the Assembly GOP got just 5.33% from labor.
