The Tasmanian Same Sex Mania

TASMANIAN MANIA.

Tasmania’s same-sex Bill to legalise homosexual marriages has been defeated.  The Upper House (Legislative Council) voted it down by a vote of 8-6.  The main reason given, is that any such legislation would have been subject to a High Court challenge with a strong chance of success. Besides, to have one State legalise a marriage which would be illegal in another, would only produce complications.

Nonetheless, the far left Premier of Tasmania, Lara Giddings, said she will fight for “equality”.  Further she said that those who voted against the Bill have “placed themselves on the wrong side of history”.  But any such legislation by the States goes against Commonwealth Law as enshrined in the Australian Constitution.  How a Premier cannot know this, is beyond anyone’s imagination.  It does show the poor quality of representation, more intent in pushing their own political and social agenda, rather than serving the people.  Any referendum held within Tasmania, would show (quite opposite of what is said) the majority of Tasmanians would be against it.

As one correspondent said to the local newspaper which has pushed the proposal, “if our parliamentarians spent as much time on the state’s problems as they do on gay marriages, we would be a lot better off.”  Here here! I say.  Tasmania is in dire economic straits and having spoken just within two days to a Deputy Mayor and a Mayor of two municipalities, they agree with me. But don’t worry about Lara; she has her social agenda to concentrate on. I mean, would you employ such people? Her co-sponsor of the bill, Greens leader and would you believe Minister for Education, Nick McKim, where he has an opportunity to push his agenda on our children, stated, “This is not the end (i.e. the defeat of the Bill)”. With Churchillian gusto, Nick, adds, “The Council (Legislative Council) has chosen fear lover love, the Council’s chosen division over unity and has chosen the 19^th century over the 21^st century”. What dribble and tripe!

Nick does not tell anyone that he is an ex student of one of Tasmania’s most prestigious and expensive boys’ school, Hutchins.  Nick has had a privilege upbringing, but now like so many of the chardonnay drinking socialist set, never mentions it.  I think there is a guilt problem here.

Nick is a Minister in Gidding’s government as her minority government can only govern with the help of the Greens.  Nick’s girlfriend, Cassy O’Connor,. has also been given a ministerial position by Lara.  Only in Tasmania!

Meanwhile some of the opponents of the Bill have criticised those who voted against the Bill who did so purely on the grounds that it was not legal.  They state “that they did not openly criticise homosexuality itself with its health risks and unnatural behaviour.”  Be that as it may, there are two points to consider.  I believe the Upper House tactic was the correct one…after all the legislation would be judged illegal and secondly (sadly) in this day and age of permissiveness, the moral question does not win favour.  I am stating that, not because I agree with it, but it is a fact.

There is no doubt the homosexual lobby will continue with its programme.  They are a wealthy lobby group with great sympathy found within the media, parliamentarians, including the Liberal Party and government agencies. Tasmanian homosexual activists say they will lobby against the Members who voted against the Bill.  This is a shallow threat because in reality when it comes to a vote the homosexual lobby are small in number, although (as stated) we must take into account their monetary power.  Most heterosexuals are too busy, bringing up families, paying school fees, paying for the mortgage and other high purchases payments that may come with their job to have time for political campaigning.

Ruth Forrest, an outspoken Member of the Council who supports same sex marriages wants to see the matter put before a select Committee, especially the constitutional issues. Give it a rest please. Haven’t you got better things to do?  Apparently not.
