Mental Apathy

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Do we ever really do enough to be proactive or are many of us stuck in mental apathy? So many of us who are working in the movement toward retrieving our liberties get stuck in one row and fall stagnant. Stagnancy results in nothing but putrid water and rotten roots. In order to remain proactive, we must avoid these pitfalls. We must move past those who are negative and not focus our attentions on them. We must trudge by the guy screaming doomsday and try to reason with the illogical stance that it is already too far gone. Maybe it is too far gone, but that does not mean just quit. We get stuck in one direction and we miss opportunities coming from other places. Mental apathy is the friend of inactivity. Cognitive dissonance is the friend of slavery. If we choose to stand in one place with our sign and scream this is the only problem, we have failed before we even started. The problems, in this nation, did not take a year to form, it took decades possibly even centuries. It may take just as long to solve them. Therefore we must remain vigilant.
As a people, we have stood by and watched as our liberties were chipped away, one by one. We have relished in the restrictions of others, because it disagrees with our personal beliefs, not realizing that the same path of restriction will soon be turned upon us also. We must find a way to keep moving so we do not end up with putrid water and rotten roots. Whether it is picking up a phone and calling a friend to tell them new developments in NDAA 2013, or calling a senator to tell him or her we disagree with a bill, we must all do something proactive daily. In this season of giving, let us remember to give the gift of knowledge to others. Let us share our ideas and try to look for plausible solutions.
It is never enough to recognize a problem, if there are no suggested answers. Together we can make a difference, but we must remain vigilant. We must get over our petty differences and move toward tomorrow, with our head held high, knowing we did everything we could to change the situation. I certainly do not want to look at my sons in the near future and say, “I am sorry I allowed mental apathy and cognitive dissonance to take me over, so I did not fight for you.” I would like to think we all feel that way. So, do not just stand on the wall and scream out problems or focus on one facet of the system that is flawed, get out there and make a difference.
We may never know how far the pebble dropped in water rings out, but we will know who dropped the pebble and, to me, that is the difference between us and them. Those who wish to remain stagnant will never move forward and those who wish to remain safe will never stand up. Do not fall prey to the idea that we have ever done enough to stop the powers that be. There is absolutely never enough that we can do as long as we still have breath in our lungs to keep fighting. Make it a point everyday to reach out to someone with a voice of truth and in efforts to wake them up. Do not be discouraged, we are all in this together and together we really can make a difference as long as we keep on going.
