On 15 August 2013 Kevin Rudd has pledged to create a special economic zone in the Northern Territory, with a company tax rate up to a third lower than elsewhere in Australia.

You have to love these pledges to spend out money, well it isn’t our money until he borrows it I guess.

Unveiling Labor’s northern Australia policy in Darwin, the Prime Minister also pledged to build the third stage of the Ord River irrigation scheme in Western Australia, and develop special economic development plans for north Queensland centres. Mr Rudd said the NT’s special status under the constitution would allow the creation of a special taxation zone.

The trouble is NT have been pushing since the 1970′s to become a state and they won’t back down from trying. Rudd is telling them forget it under this plan

“My personal objective for the territory is it would be great to have a company tax rate here one-third lower than that of the rest of the country,” he said.

Mr Rudd failed to provide costings for the pledge, which would not be delivered until 2018. A one-third cut would reduce the corporate tax rate to 20 per cent.

The only money attached to the policy was a promised $10 million to help resolve native title disputes preventing further development of the Ord scheme.

Development of the Ord scheme would see $10mill as sit down money, the cost would be something with billion after it.  And of course with reduced taxation, where is he getting the money from ?

Queensland centres like Cairns, Townsville and Mackay would get 20 year development plans to guide future investment. Mr Rudd brushed off questions about whether the pledge would unfairly advantage the NT over other parts of northern Australia. He foreshadowed a constitutional challenge to the plan but said it was one he was prepared to fight.

Rudd will do anything to get people willing to see change in the Constitution.  He wants people to desire a rewrite of the Constitution so he can Socialize it.

On 21 June 2013 the Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has committed the Coalition to produce a White Paper for Northern Australian development within 12 months, if it’s elected in September.

Mr Abbott says the Top End has been ignored for too long. The White Paper would be a 20-year vision for the north, looking at how to improve infrastructure and services, expand agriculture and resource production, and make the region a tourist magnet.

The National Farmers’ Federation’s chief executive, Matt Linnegar, is in Darwin for NFF member council meetings this week. Another in a long line of copied policies from the Kevin Rudd is delivering, this is why they are pushing Libs to cost their policies so Labor doesn’t have to worry about it.  Even worse, is Rudd having the Gall to attack Abbott, when it is Abbott’s policies that Labor are relying on to win the election
