Is The Snake Oil Salesman Wearing Out His Welcome?

I am watching the CBS Morning News and they just ran a report stating that only 49% of American’s now find President Obama’s “trustworthy.” The talking heads were discussing how that number had dropped from 60% and how that drop didn’t bode well for the President. While the talking heads seemed perplexed about the numbers of people who no longer trusted President Obama; I had a different reaction.

How can half of Americans still trust this guy? After all he has been lying through his teeth during his entire political career. I guess we should never underestimate the ability of a good con-artist to fool folks. Two new pieces of information add to the volumes of lies this guy has spewed.. If  people paid a little bit of attention, the trustworthiness score would be zero.

1. The Census Bureau faked unemployment numbers just prior to the 2012 elections. 

Now it is possible that this was just a rogue act. Just like every other scandal that has impacted the administration?!? Why is this fabrication so critical? Well in addition to manipulating data to help a sitting President win re-election;

“To cite just (another) instance, the Fed is targeting the curtailment of its so-called quantitative easing money-printing/bond-buying fiasco to the unemployment rate for which Census provided the false information. So falsifying this would, in essence, have dire consequences for the country.”

If the President had an R behind his name, wouldn’t the press be asking a simple question. Who in the Administration knew this and when did they know it? Oh, I forgot. Woodward and Bernstein type journalism only occurs when you have an R behind your name. The Washington Post and Richmond Times Dispatch have time to investigate whether the Republican LG candidate in Virginia really didn’t have running water in his childhood home, but they can’t find the time to investigate this?!?

2. 30-40% of the Healthcare.gov website hasn’t been built yet. After President loudly proclaimed that he had no idea the website was going to fail so spectacularly, we now find out large chunks of the code for the website haven’t even been written yet. So is the President completely out of the loop or is he lying about the state of the website to try and save his signature legislative achievement? Either he is grossly incompetent or he is lying through his teeth. Or a combination of the two.

A good con-man knows when to exit the stage and move on to the next batch of suckers. Unfortunately for the President, he is stuck in front of the same audience until 2016. And more people are starting to notice that the snake oil he has been hawking since 2008 isn’t working anymore. Perhaps the only way most people can see the truth on this is for the charlatan to be revealed as such repeatedly in public. And  at some point someone in the media will almost be forced to take the bait and run down one of the many dangling threads that are just begging to be investigated.

It is hard for anyone to admit they were wrong. Especially if you bought a liberal amount of the snake oil the con-man has been offering. You want to believe that you weren’t fooled. That your judgment wasn’t that bad. I get that.

But at some point the conned have to learn from their mistakes or they will forever be a victim. Time will tell if people will wake up in time to save the Republic.
