The Time For A Third Party Is Now

Rep. Paul Ryan(R), Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, has joined with Sen. Patty Murray(D), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Budget, to introduce a bill that reduces the U.S. deficit by $23B over the next 10 years, an amount that falls far short of even paying the interest on the $17T national debt.

Rep. Boehner, Republican speaker of the House has stated, for media consumption, that “Tea Party-aligned conservative groups . . . have been more of an obstacle to him than the Democrats.”

Be assured, Reps. Ryan and Boehner, both prominent and powerful members of the Republican party are saying, “To hell with the Conservative movement.”. They are making it clear that the Party will do everything it can to block Tea Party/conservative candidates from running as Republicans in future elections.

Good, the Republican party is not the solution anyway. It is in fact 50% of the problem.

What we need is a third party, a political party formed from the Tea Party in alliance with other like-minded groups.

We need a third political party that stands for:

• Smaller less intrusive federal government.
• Reforms of entitlement and regulatory programs.
• Budget-based government finances.
• Aggressive debt-reduction programs over a reasonable period of time.
• Reinstatement and enforcement of Constitutional limits on Presidential powers.
• Reinstatement of congressional and judicial adherence to Constitutional law.
• And, yes, term-limits for Congress and recall options for federal judges.

Unfortunately, the Republican party will never accept these precepts. Why should they?

They have pigeon-holed voters and gerrymandered districts to the extent that almost all “their” congressional seats are “safe”. Rarely do they lose one of their safe seats, and if they do it is a major news story.

The Republican leadership is not going to reform the party folks. Not now, not ever. But a strong third party movement could significantly change the political dynamics, in a very positive way, and now is the best time for a third party to appear. Here’s why.

First of all, come election time in 2014, some, maybe many Democratic voters will want to distance themselves from the disaster named Obama, but they will never vote for a Republican. A solid third party with a Constitutionally based platform would give them an alternative to throwing their vote away.

Second, many Republicans who have gone along with party politics for their own reasons but are not really comfortable with what the Republican party has become will be looking for something to vote for instead of just voting against Democrats. A solid third party with a Constitutionally based platform might be an attractive alternative for them as well.

Third, today’s Independent voters would flock to such a party in droves. It is exactly what they have wanted for years.

Fourth, Americans seem to be finally awakening to the fact that all is not well in the nation and are beginning to suspect that big government and party-politics are the problem, and more of the same is not a solution. These reinvigorated voters who may have skipped previous elections will also welcome something worth voting for.

Fifth, even the media has pulled back noticeably from it’s relentless support of the liberal progressive movement. The “phony scandals” and congressional failures are receiving more media attention than ever before. I actually saw CNN interviewing Glenn Beck on TV the other night. The networks and cables might actually welcome a newsworthy third party, and that can only help.

Lastly, we have a very short window of opportunity for a third party to make a difference, and it will not remain open for very long.

Our current President has already assumed and asserted the power to make law by Presidential decree, and has done so with hardly a murmur from Congress. He is busily using that power to morph an already huge bureaucracy into an all consuming central-government with single-payer health care and presidential power to regulate every element of our lives.

He intends, with the complicity of Congress, to change the land of the free and the home of the brave into a land of the suppressed and the home of the entitlement mired in an European style socialistic mediocrity. When he said he would bring “fundamental change” to America this is what he meant.

If the President succeeds in this, and he is close, our window of opportunity will be lost, and there very well may not be another for a very long time.

This is a dangerous time for liberty, and there has never been a more critical need nor a better time for a third party to arise. And how fitting that it should be formed by an alliance of the Tea Party and all those “Tea Party-aligned groups” – those “obstacles” that so annoy speaker Boehner.

How sweet would that be?
