Planes, Trains and Automobiles. And by the way, railroads, too!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Perhaps it is because of the one-year anniversary that this story is starting to surface again. It shows either a complete ignorance of guns or a desperation on the part of anti-American people who just simply want to disarm American and subjugate them to total slavery.

The left “Reverend” Jesse Jackson last February made remarks that AR-15s could take down planes and blow up railroads.

“These weapons can shoot down airplanes. They can blow up railroads. This is really a homeland security issue. You want a gun for your house? You got it. A gun in which to hunt. You got it. But these semi-automatic military-style assault rifles, they shot in the White House two-years ago.”

At least he says semi-automatic, military-style, but like Obama and Bloomberg, he does not know what an assault rifle is. You know a semi-automtic is not the kind where you can hold the trigger down and it shoots repeatedly. The kind that Obama said was used at Sandy Hook or that Bloomberg seems confused about.

Police, firearms instructors and even news reporters have been trying to correct these politicians, but to no avail. Because semi-automatic does not sound as exciting as “assault rifle.”

Since it is difficult to actually de-rail a train with conventional explosives (with the exception of blowing up a bridge), it is likely impossible to blow up a train with an AR-15 or AK-74, etc.

Of course, that is not to say that a person with a semi-automatic could not cause problems for a transportation system. Any less than it is for a standing army with real assault rifles to cause problems for liberty.

This is why more importance was placed on a militia of citizens over a standing army. This is another concept demonized or intentionally misconstrued by these people.

There is a brief, but surprisingly well-written, 2012 article in The New Yorker by Jill Lepore that explores the arguments in an unbiased fashion with links to several good articles. Such as The Embarrassing Second Amendment and a Senate document of 1982.

The founders contended that government was a necessary evil. That the government which governs best governs least. The government-approved Federalist Papers are replete with the limitations on national government. They laud the power of the people and the States over the detached government in Washington D.C.

However, those are not the only federalist papers written. Here is a book containing both sides of the Constitutional debate. And the anti Federalist arguments read almost like prophecy.

The problem is that more-and-more people are waking up to the usurpation of power by the national government. Including the right to bear arms. And people in America where guns are practically totally banned (including for hunting!) and Australia where they are slowly moving toward the same end.
