He’s registering voters every. single. day.

Fast-forward one year later, and I was promoted at ACPS. During this time, the 2012 presidential elections were going on. I was active politically on social media, but I didn’t do any volunteering. I wanted Mitt Romney to win. When Romney lost, I took it hard. I saw America failing, and wanted to get us back on the right track.

One morning, March 2013, I woke up and thought, “I can sit at home and complain, or I can do something about it.” That day, I went to my local GOP office to volunteer for Ken Cuccinelli for governor. I continued to work full-time, then walked my neighbor’s dogs, then I would go volunteer. November came, and Cuccinelli lost. While I was disappointed, this time, it was different for me. I took it hard, but I wasn’t discouraged. I had fallen in love with politics, and knew this was the career path I wanted to take.

In December, I applied to campaigns all across the country. I was on a mission, and was prepared to move anywhere. I got a call from the Greg Abbott campaign, interviewed — over the phone — and within 10 days, I moved to Texas. I said goodbye to my neighbor’s dogs, packed up my clothes, my toiletries, and began a new life. It was the best decision I ever made.

Volunteering for the Cuccinelli campaign gave me my start, and my passion. The Greg Abbott campaign helped hone my field work skills. Everything that’s happened, from struggling to find work, from working for the public school system, from being fed up and going to volunteer, has prepared me for the work I’m doing today. I’ve been shaped from these experiences, and it’s made me into the man I am today.

I am ordinary. I’m just a regular guy, who saw that our country needed change, and decided to take action. My story is like millions of young people in America.
