Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in treatment of seborrheic keratosis , some scientists suggested.

Seborrheic keratosis is a common skin disorder in older adults with appearance a brown, black or light tan growth on the face, chest, shoulders or back.

Although the disorder is painless and required no treatment, the seborrheic keratosis may annoy some people if they develop in the face areas.

The causes of Seborrheic Keratoses are not known. However, some researchers suggested, prolonged sun exposure may play a role in stimulated onset of the condition.. 

Luckily, Seborrheic keratoses are not contagious.

Aging and family history also are prevalent risk factors of the skin disease onset.

Green tea, is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

In the examine the exposure of skin to a variety of environmental, chemical, and genotoxic agents that contribute to skin disease and carcinogenesis, researchers found that 

* Sun utraviolet light (UVR) isconsidered as the main external stress in induction of skin disorder including seborrheic keratoses through promoting immunosuppresion, oxidative stress, premature aging,…… and 

*Application of green tea polyphenols protect skin of the body against such expressions by exhibiting significant antioxidant, chemopreventive, and immunomodulatory effects.

Further analysis of the effect of skin damage induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation in animal models of 30 BALB/c mice randomly divided into 3 groups: 

* Control group ( mice), without UVB exposure and green tea administration; 

*. Exposure group ( mice), which were exposed to UVB light only; and

*. Treatment group ( mice), which were exposed to UVB light and treated with 1 mL of green tea through oral gavage. 

After 4 days/week of UVB irradiation  (20 minutes/day, 4 weeks), researchers indicated that oral administration of green tea exerted a significant photo-protection against UVB induced hyperplasia, an indication of abnormal cell proliferation.

These results suggested that green tea has had a strong implication of in ameliorated risk of skin disorders in induction of over growth of abnormal cell and skin cell damage caused by prolonged UVB exposure, including seborrheic keratoses.

More importantly, although sunexposed and non-sun-exposed skin, cumulative exposure to sunlight and aging have been proposed as independent risk factors for their development of seborrheic keratoses, however, in gene expression, researchers found that mutation of protein PTEN may have a strong impact the expression of seborrheic keratoses.

Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) is a protein with function in signalling the making an tumor suppressor enzyme in regulate cell division.

Mutation of PTEN was a risk factor for the development of many types of cancer.

Some researchers in the investigation of UVB exposure against skin diseases to healthy individual  suggested that UVB induced expression of seborrheic keratoses by downgraded PTEN expression.

In other word, exposure to UVB in reduced function of PTEN or mutation of protein PTEN expressed a strong effect in promoted seborrheic keratoses development.

Truly, according to the study with all animal procedures approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Chicago, to compare the tumor formation in the skin between mice with normal PTEN ( þ / þ ) and mice with PTEN hemizygosity, researchers once again confirmed that deleted one allele of the Pten gene in the epidermal keratinocytes causes the formation of tumors resembling human seborrheic keratoses(SKs) as well as of squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs)(3).

 According to the University of Regensburg, genetic mutation such as FGFR3 mutations are associated to the pathogenesis of at least a subset of seborrheic keratoses.

Increased age also is also  a risk factor of FGFR3 mutations.

Taken together, Green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may have a therapeutic effect in attenuated development of  seborrheic keratoses induced by over expression UVB or UVB in reduced function of Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) or PTEN protein mutation,
