Oscars So White

I went to the movies today. As you know there are seven or eight trailers before the feature starts. Today there was NOT ONE trailer for a movie with a White male or female lead. Not one. And the new David Copperfield is East Indian. I know there were East Indians in England at that time but I don’t believe David Copperfield was one of them. Not only that, in this period piece several of the English aristocrats are Black.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with movies staring minorities. I loved Crazy Rich Asians, Parasite, The Hundred-Foot Journey, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Get Out, and many, many others. But changing the ethnicities of historic characters is a bridge too far. I think historic pieces should be faithful to the facts of the time. David Copperfield was not East Indian and, I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt there were many Black English Aristocrats in the 1850’s.

I doubt the “woke” Hollywood elites bemoaning the “Oscars so White” imagined they were putting themselves out of business. I suspect they just thought there would be more “Get Out”, “Crazy Rich Asians” along with the movies they star in. I doubt they considered traditional White characters would be recast as minorities even when historically inaccurate. I think the Oh So Politically Correct Hollywood Stars are in for a rude awakening.

I watched this years Academy Awards. Although, there was much complaining about, “Oscars so White”, most of the Oscars went to minorities. One even went to a minority communist saying how much better this country will be when the “workers of the world unite”.

People I know who are still working in the entertainment industry tell me there are no starring roles for White male or female actors. There are supporting roles, but not starring roles. I’m really hoping next years Academy Awards have no White actors nominated for Best Actor/ Actress, or Best Supporting Actor/Actress. Hollywood actors need to feel the consequences of their diversity advocacy.

Then there are the virtue signaling movies. One of the trailers was for a movie entitled, “In the Heights” about mostly Latino’s living in Washington Heights, New York. It looks fun, lots of singing and dancing in the streets. Sort of a modern West Side Story. But, of course, the “Dreamers” were afraid they were going to be rounded up and deported. I’m not aware of any push to round up “Dreamers”. But, apparently, Hollywood isn’t as concerned with facts as they are with pushing an agenda.

Movie sales are down, attendance for sporting events is down but the Left doesn’t seem to understand they are killing the Golden Goose.
