No State Shutdown!

“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,”

IF, Rudyard Kipling

Here’s something you won’t hear from most of the media in Missouri: Governor Mike Parson has done a good job leading during the COVID-19 issue.

It appears he hasn’t gotten the press attention others have because he’s making decisions based on comprehensive data and listening to the best experts. Meanwhile, those who get the attention are all too often taking the ready, fire, aim approach. You have all heard the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Good intentions can still harm people.

Governor Parson has demonstrated that his intentions are to safeguard public health while protecting freedom by using the best data and best advisors. He has addressed the issues in Missouri thoughtfully and decisively while implementing the recommendations of President Trump and the CDC.

He has avoided a reactionary approach. The Governor clearly understands that knee-jerk, “sounds good” reactions can have more dire consequences than a measured, data-driven approach will.

None of this means that we have agreed with every decision made by the Governor, but he has demonstrated that he has put the thought and reason behind the COVID-19 decisions.

It has become a part of the political lexicon now to “never let a good crisis go to waste!”.

That appears to be what the Governor’s detractors are trying to do, take advantage of a national crisis, and attempt to get some political gain from it.
We have disagreed with the Governor on several subjects and likely will again. However, his overall handling of the issue deserves more praise than heckles.

If you agree, call the Governor’s office at (573) 751-3222 and let him know you support his reasoned decision not to shut the state down.
