The face of evil

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Despite movies and shows, Satan and his minions do not go around wearing horns with red skin and costumes. Evil is described as being a wolf in sheep’s clothing: it disguises itself as doing good.  We’ve seen that to be the case with human government time and time again. “Hello, I am here to help you” is the first of the lies we can expect on a visit from a government agent.

This week, we’ve seen a truly horrible example of just that. A man who successfully fooled not just the public, not just medical authorities, but other evil people, like other government employees and governmental leaders.  The man we here at TPOL refer to as “Faucet” actually “testified” in front of a US Senate committee.

The following information is from a correspondent. From what I can tell, these dates and data match what I’m seeing from multiple sources, about the guy’s appearance and the matters surrounding a man who probably was directly involved in the killing of at least a million Americans.

He put the correct mortality estimate in his own notebook, published it under his own name, and gave Congress a figure three to five times higher. Eighteen months later, he was hiring litigators to claim a share of the product he was telling Americans to take.

On 8 February 2020, Anthony Fauci took a morning telephone call from Tom Frieden, formerly the director of the CDC. He wrote down what they discussed. Both men agreed the new coronavirus was behaving like a bad influenza in transmissibility. Fauci recorded 34,867 known cases against 724 deaths, then observed that the real denominator was far larger than the confirmed count. That put the case fatality rate at 0.2 to 0.3 percent rather than 2.0 percent (Paul 2026). He [Faucet] was right, and the estimate has held up better than most of what was said in public over the two years that followed.

Twenty days later, he published the same reasoning under his own name. Writing with H. Clifford Lane and Robert Redfield in the New England Journal of Medicine, he noted that a reported case fatality rate near two percent rested on a case definition requiring pneumonia. If asymptomatic and minimally symptomatic infections ran several times the reported count, the true rate might fall considerably below one percent. The clinical consequences, the three authors wrote, could prove closer to those of a severe seasonal influenza, which they put at roughly 0.1 percent, than to SARS or MERS (Fauci, Lane, and Redfield 2020, 1268). The article went online on 28 February 2020.

His response was public in the Senate hearing today, and so there are clearly still many questions to be answered. Don’t hold your breath and expect that Congress will answer many (if any) of these and so many more!

Such as why he thought he could get away with it – and the data he actually had. (Of course, he did for nearly six years, right?) Besides greed, what were his motives? How many more government employees are as corrupt (or more) as Faucet? We always assume that government employees are (default setting) corrupt, but are there any limits?

Of course, as expected, he pled the Fifth in front of Congress and attacked Trump. Paul, and various others for their “violation of privacy” and other claims. The recordings make it clear: Faucet is playing a stupid game with the Senate committee. Again, the question must be asked: Why? He was asked the color of his tie, and of the carpet, and his answer? That his attorneys advised him not to answer and plead the Fifth! So he did. 111 times, according to one observe.

Of course, this guy is not alone. And all the evil people are not in government. (We will go so far as to say that not all people in government are evil. But those who are not? Their bad reputation is understandable.

Here we have another example, from another correspondent:

Emily Clancy, of Paradigm, wrote recently about the Andean hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship and the worldwide effort as a result. She says, “The scientific infrastructure, built from the responses to Ebola and COVID, has never been more robust. [No, she’s not a proponent of the lockdown and the Pandemic Panic, just noting that certain things do wonders in getting people to concentrate on certain things. She continues: “There is no approved treatment for hantavirus today. No vaccine. But the machinery to develop both is running hotter than at any point in the virus’s known history. The bottom line: Three people are dead. This is a real public health event that deserves serious attention.”

The issues about the real nature of viruses to one side for a moment, fear (real or trumped-up) causes people to do something. If they have correct and adequate information about the threat they fear, they can accomplish good things.

The deaths of three unaware, unknowing, possibly innocent people triggers a massive effort to deal with what we think caused it.

But it also triggers a massive effort to take advantage of that fear to grasp more money, more power, more prestige, and more opportunity for doing all sorts of evil.

This is absolutely correct. So obvious that many of those in government who were fooled by Faucet wanted to be fooled. Why? Power and wealth. And the temptation of both lusts, which makes them act with evil malice, even while fooling themselves and others about how compassionate they are. About how they serve others.
