Colorado sinking fast

Right now, attention nationally seems to be on those States where Democratic mobs are busy nominating members and fellow-travelers of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA = Communists) to run as governors, senators, representatives, and a whole bunch of State legisgators.

In doing so, perhaps people are losing sight of the fact that we already have a large number of States controlled by authoritarian, totalitarian, anti-liberty people. People who may not meet the “political science” definition of “socialist” but certainly fall into what we here at TPOL call “Regressives” (who generally label themselves as “Progressives” since about 1880). They don’t subscribe to every traditional tenet of Marxism, or “Socialism” or even of Marxist-Leninist Communism. (Or even Castroist, Maoist, Chavezismo.)

But they certainly understand and follow the concepts and patterns found in The Communist Manifesto, as updated for the 21st (not 19th) Century. And it seems to be working for them. And working against liberty, freedom, and traditional American ideals.

There are many examples. Let us consider just one, the State of Colorado.

That organization notes (in part): “When Senate Bill 3 was written, Colorado Democrats tried to make it appear more innocuous by regulating only “gas-operated semiautomatic handguns.” Colorado Democrats would know a thing or two about being “gas-operated,” and their use of the term shows that SB3 is full of hot air.

Shortly before its passage, Complete Colorado ran an excellent piece by Dave Kopel and an expert firearms attorney and gun designer, Matt Larosiere, myth-busting the supposedly limited scope of SB3.

David Kopel of the webzine “Complete Colorado” worked with Matt Larosiere (a firearms attorney and gun designer) and found that the bill’s definition of “gas-operated” includes every single semi-automatic centerfire firearm, even handguns, except one 1990’s collectors item — the Benelli B-80.

This is one of these now-amazing pistols. You can buy one on-line (through all the various hoops) for a mere $2002. (We bet the price is going up!) Apparently you can forget about Kaers and HiPoints and other formerly-inexpensive semi-automatic firearms. So why are we talking about gun laws in Colorado and socialism?

Colorado has been labeled as “increasingly blue” for several decades. Not just the most recent governors (Hickenlooper and Polis) have been extremely liberal and left (“Regressives” as TPOL labels them), but the General Assembly (both houses) has had super-majority Democratic control for a long time as well. (Yes, the Colorado GOP is as much to blame for this, due to their own stupidity and lack of skills and internal cohesion, as the Colorado Democrats are. And don’t get us started on the worthlessness of the Colorado Libertarian Party.)

Disarming the population is not a specifically-stated tactic of the Communists, but it certainly is a strongly-implied task (a necessary inference). And we know that is the standard modus operand (approved example) from well over a century of Communist revolutions and coups. And Colorado, in the past decades, has implemented a great many measures that are specifically socialist/communist in nature: people in Colorado have little control over their own property, real or personal. Measures designed to protect people from insane levels of taxation (theft by government at all levels) have been gutted or sidestepped. Or simply ignored. The costs of “owning” property, of starting and operating businesses, and even of getting necessary information from government agencies has exploded.

Far beyond the levels of inflation. An example is the “Air Pollution Emission Notice” or APEN, required by hundreds of types of businesses who may have to emit what are considered air pollutants or contaminants. Thousands of these APENs are required of companies (and individuals) who do things like have a large diesel or gasoline engine, screen or crush materials, or even cremate pets, other animals, or humans. In 1999, these APENs (which have to be submitted every five years) cost $99. Today? They cost more than $400 – an inflation rate we don’t even want to calculate. To make matters worse, you now must file these only online, and you must pay the fee (and any additional fees the State and county and cities may charge) online. Cash? No way? Check? No way. But you can pay by credit or debit card, with a $14.95 “convenience fee.” Failing to submit the APENs often results in fines and “consent agreements” that run to tens of thousands of dollars.

These sort of things drive businesses out of business – especially if they are sole proprietors or small mom-and-pop operations. They can’t afford the time necessary to keep up with the monthly, even weekly, changes. Even larger, well-established firms find that costs and times are crushing. We cannot but think these “side-effects” are one of the reasons for such requirements. And of course, “it’s for the environment” and “it’s for the children” are blanket excuses and the deluded populace, including voters, are scammed by the claims.

Just as they are by the growing promises of the socialists, the “progressives” of every flavor: local, State, federal, international, and transnational.

The solution is education and more education, pushing for the truth and paying attention to (and issuing warnings about) the laws and other actions under the Gold Dome there in Denver.
