Trump Admin Offers Migrant Children $3,000 To Voluntarily Leave US

The Trump administration is offering unaccompanied migrant children $3,000 to voluntarily return to their home countries, expanding an immigration enforcement initiative aimed at protecting minors and reducing illegal immigration.
A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed Tuesday that migrant children ages 14 and older who are in federal custody and have no gang affiliations are eligible for the financial incentive.
The payment represents a $500 increase from the $2,500 offered last year under President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin is overseeing the initiative, which the department says is intended to protect vulnerable migrant children from exploitation and help reunite them with their families.
A DHS spokesperson told ABC News that Mullin is “leading efforts to rescue these children and stop their exploitation.”
The administration has repeatedly raised concerns about the treatment of unaccompanied minors who entered the United States during former President Joe Biden’s administration, particularly those placed with sponsors who may have criminal backgrounds.
“Many of the children who came across the border unaccompanied were allowed to be placed with sponsors who were smugglers and sex traffickers,” a DHS spokesperson said.
“Unlike the previous administration, President Trump and DHS take the responsibility to protect children seriously and will continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to reunite children with their families,” the spokesperson added.
According to a legal services provider cited by ABC News, DHS began offering the increased incentive earlier this month.
The administration has also assembled a team of federal attorneys to represent migrant children in immigration proceedings after ending agreements with several immigration advocacy organizations that previously provided legal assistance.
The administration maintains that its immigration policies prioritize enforcement, child safety and family reunification as it works to address problems stemming from the previous administration’s handling of unaccompanied migrant children.
