Threat of Terrorist Attacks against the United States

What is the current threat of a terrorist attack against the United States or our Western Allies? How will it manifest itself, and when will it occur?

Current Major Threat. The current major threat against our American warfighters and coalition forces in the two war zones (i.e., Afghanistan and Iraq) is the deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The current major threat in other countries (i.e., our Western Allies) of the world is the suicide bomber, car bombs, and other vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIEDs). The current major threat in the continental United States (CONUS) is the weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) including chemical, biological, radiological (dirty bombs), and nuclear (CBRN) weapons. The terrorist attacks on the United States were projected to have occurred in the summer of 2007. Here we are after two years of the Obama administration, and they have begun to occur. Rest assured, a widespread, coordinate terror campaign will occur soon in the U.S. homeland. It is not a matter of “if” it will happen but “when” it will happen.

More Attacks in Europe. I think more attacks will occur in European countries before they start in the CONUS. Terrorists have attacked Spain, England, France, and Germany. I forecast that more major attacks will occur in Europe. A major, coordinated attack recently occurred in Mumbai, India, in December 2008. A major attack in the CONUS will probably occur in 2011.

Al-Qaeda Emboldened. I read in The Al-Qaeda Connection, written by Paul Williams, that the Clinton administration did nothing after al-Qaeda terrorists attacked the USS Cole. At that time, the Clinton administration should have made an all-out effort to go after and capture or kill Osama bin Laden (OBL) and those perpetrators of that attack. All our inaction did was to embolden al-Qaeda to plan more attacks such as the huge one that occurred on 9/11/2001.

We Help Those Who Work to Destroy Us. Again, upon reading The Al-Qaeda Connection, I was appalled to read that OBL had issued his fatwas #1 and #2 years before we had supported OBL and his al-Qaeda followers and the Albanians to destroy the Serbs.  We were helping those who had the goal to destroy the United States! Later, after the Serbian war was over because the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) blew up all Serb resistance, the Muslims who took over their country themselves proceeded to perform ethnic cleansing, which is the same thing the Serbs were accused of doing! Somehow, the Clinton administration did not do the right thing in that case. We, again, helped, enabled, and emboldened the Islamic fundamentalists to carry out their fatwa on us on 9/11!

Human Intelligence (HUMINT). Regarding needing “superior HUMINT” to get OBL, it was also during the Clinton administration that HUMINT in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was emasculated and decimated because of insufficient funding. That was sad because we have been playing a catch-up game on acquiring effective HUMINT on terrorists ever since Clinton left office and throughout George W. Bush’s two terms.

Reactive Congress. I believe that only after the first barrage of dirty nukes in a few of our big cities, then our politicians will wake up and develop an approach to mitigating this threat. Hence, very few people if any will be concerned about dense population centers until after the fact. As usual, our Congress is reactive, not proactive.

The Enemy Within. No one really knows when, where, and how the terrorists will attack. The reasons that contribute to our ignorance is that there are internal forces (e.g., politicians, the democrat party, anti-Americans, anti-military, and the Hollywood elite/mafia) in the United States that fight to eliminate the Patriot Act, eliminate wiretapping of incoming cell phone calls from overseas suspected terrorists, and disallow racial/religious profiling of suspected terrorists. Why do these forces (I call them the “enemies within”) want to tie our own hands behind our backs and expect to fight and win a Global War on Terror (GWOT) is way beyond me. The terrorists only need to succeed once; we must succeed thwarting their attempts every time … or many Americans will be killed. To minimize the terrorist threat, we should do two things:

1. Eradicate Terrorists One at a Time. We should eradicate terrorists one at a time … without fanfare. Publicity kills us every time. We should kill the terrorists and not publicize their elimination. The press/media will discover and publicize enough of what happens in the GWOT anyway. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), CIA, federal government, and United States armed forces do not need to add to the media frenzies by feeding them any information … except disinformation. We should take no prisoners, thereby not needing the Guantanamo (or Gitmo for short) prison and eliminating it as Barack Obama forever plans to be doing.

2. Demonize the Demons. We (the United States) should plan and implement a methodical media campaign to discredit al-Qaeda, all terrorist groups, and individual terrorists. Our adversaries have been doing a superb job in demonizing the United States. It is about time we started demonizing those demons of terror. We should conduct a massive worldwide, but subtle, campaign to demonize OBL, al-Qaeda, Iran, Syria, and other such people, organizations, and terror-financing countries. Whenever they err or do something really atrocious, we should put our propaganda machine in full swing and demonize them and the incident. We should also implement a massive disinformation campaign. Whatever they do, we can and will do better.

We Must Seek a Happy Median. We have so much freedom and rights in this country that we work ourselves to a point where not only our hands but our legs also are tied behind our backs. Then, we are unable to defend ourselves, and we all will either be killed or held in bondage. So, we will make full circle from full and complete rights and freedom to death, bondage, and no rights. There has got to be a happy median in there somewhere.
