GIVE ME A BREAK The courts are always busy, think department stores on the first day of the January sales and you get the picture. In one week alone 24 Londoners (?) were sentenced to jail. The crimes they committed include fatal stabbings and shootings, but also a gang who held a knife to a baby’s throat in a bid to steal jewellery and cash.

One of the men jailed was already serving time for the murder of his stepmother, when new evidence connected him with rape on a teenage girl, who fell pregnant at the age of just 14.

Iki Mohammed Ali, Syed Fahad and Jonathan Mulangala carried out the violent murder of Abdulrahman Nassor Juma. They were each handed life sentences for the murder.

NOTE The average ‘life sentence in the UK is 15 years, most of it in an open prison with access to facilities better than those provided for the armed forces serving abroad.

Mani was knifed 18 times. It was revealed in court that “Mulangala is a violent and dangerous man who has also been rightfully jailed for attempted murder on another man.

Four members of a gang were arrested making their getaway after a burglary in which they held a knife to a baby’s throat. The sickening gang consisted of Malik Ragnatt, 22, and Joshua Juggan, 25, as well as Gregory Crockett, 24 and Daniel McKain, 29.

One of them held a Stanley knife to a ten-month-old baby’s throat and ordered the family to give them the code to open a safe while tying a 71-year-old grandmother to a chair. He chillingly told them: “If you don’t tell me I will cut his neck, I’ll kill your baby.”

The court heard the pensioner, her 35-year-old daughter-in-law, 10-month-old grandson and three-year-old granddaughter were all inside the property at the time. The thugs also bound the mum-of-two with her son on her lap and told the young girl to stand in a corner of the room.

A teenager who had just dropped his friends home after a barbecue was shot dead. Sean Obazee, 24 from North Pole Road, in Ladbroke Grove, and Breaedon Henry, 25, from Evelyn Road, in the Royal Docks area were both handed life sentences at the Old Bailey on Friday, July 26 for killing 19-year-old Abdul Mayanja.

The pair were known to police as gang members. Abdul was approached by the gunmen as he was sat on a wall talking to a girl and was asked what area he was from. Before he could answer he was fatally shot as the suspects got back into the car and fled the scene.

A total of 16 people were jailed following a major investigation into drugs supply in the Home Counties. Prosecutors linked them with an organised crime gang known as the “67″. The London gangsters spread their network through the rest of London, reaching out to Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire and Hampshire.

Mohammed Fethaullah, 58, was jailed for raping a 14-year-old on Friday, July 26, having previously been jailed murdering his stepmother.

On Friday, 18 June 1999 she had worked a shift and after having her tea spiked, she recalled Fethaullah putting her in his car and driving to an unknown secluded location. When she woke, Fethaullah was having sex with her on the back seat.

LONDON’S knife epidemic has reached unprecedented levels. There have been 86 deaths in the capital since the start of 2019. Last year was London’s bloodiest in a decade. The number of homicides then reached 132 and it shows no signs of abating. As of August 13, there have been 86 violent deaths in the capital. It comes as shocking figures revealed knife crime in England and Wales has soared to a record high, with 43,000 offences last year.
