CDL Holders Need to Know the Law or Risk Suspension

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2013) – Floridians who drive trucks and large commercial vehicles in Florida are required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that comes with special rules and requirements.  A CDL can be easily be suspended, causing a possible loss of income. A Florida CDL (commercial driver license) is required to operate the following vehicles:

• Trucks or combinations with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) that exceeds 26,000 lbs. If present, a towed unit should weigh more than 10,000 lbs.
• Trucks with a GVWR that exceeds 26,000 lbs.
• Vehicles transporting hazardous materials in amounts requiring placards, or made to transport more than 15 people (driver included), with a GVWR of 26,000 lbs. or less.

There are specific laws regarding the penalties for tickets given to commercial driver’s license holders. “If you are a commercial driver in Florida, you should know these laws and refresh your knowledge frequently because your driving privileges can easily be suspended in Florida,” said Guy. “If your CDL gets suspended, this usually means your job is suspended too.”
