Get Ready For a Vacation in a Foreign Country
Let’s jump straight to the topic. So you’re going on a trip to a completely unfamiliar country, and you have some concerns. What to do? Start by trying to acquire more information about the destination you’re going to visit. Get familiar with the customs and traditions of this foreign country, with what is appropriate and what’s not there. See what the weather would be like at the time of your visit so that you’d know what kind of clothes to take. Having a chance to get closer to another culture is an opportunity not everyone has, so make the best of it by being prepared in advance.
Once you start packing, you should have a list of to-take items handy. Actually, there should be two lists – one for the suitcase and another for the carry-on bag. Write everything you can think of down, even some unusual entries. Then, you can go through the written stuff more carefully again and consider what will be most needed and what not. Cross out the things you won’t take with you and put a mark next to the ones you’ll take for sure.
If you’ll be flying to this foreign location, there will be some airport restrictions for the weight of your suitcase and the things you can take in your carry-on. Get familiar with the items that are in the forbidden list. This is a mandatory thing in order to avoid unpleasant situations. Each airline has its own rules, and they have to be strictly followed if you want to reach the final destination.
Stick to the ‘less is more’ principle, meaning to never overpack. Take some toiletry essential but always in travel-size containers so that your suitcase to be lighter. Now, it’s probably better to take stuff like travel-size shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush and other items that you’ll necessary need with you instead of buying them from the location you’re travelling to since you might be a little bit overwhelmed in the beginning, not knowing the language and the place. And these are stuff you’ll use shortly after your arrival, so you just have to have them handy. Your clothes should be appropriate for the season there, so pack only the necessary ones; presumably such basic pieces of clothing that can be combined well with each other.
There are packing methods that can save space and prevent items from breaking. One of them is to place soft possessions in the bottom, top and all the way around the sides of your suitcase to protect the stuff in there from being damaged. Also, fragile items can be wrapped in clothes or towels. Rolling clothes and putting them in between belongings can utilize the space in there to the maximum. If your suitcase can be locked, make sure to lock it, just in case. You don’t want to find out that something is missing.
As for the important documents, jewelry, passport and money, don’t ever put them in the suitcase. They should always be within reach in your carry-on bag. Customs officials will need to see your passport each time you transfer to another flight. Sometimes you don’t even see your suitcase when changing flight because it goes directly into the other plane. Money and credit cards should be put in several different places – some in your wallet/purse, others in an inner pocket of the carry-on; if you have a pocket with a zipper in your clothes, it should do as well; you can even hide some in a secret place. This is a precaution if something happens.
The heads-up is given, so hopefully you’ll consider some of these tips the next time you have to travel abroad.
