What to do in Barbados when cruising in the Caribbean
With us today is Erica, trading the sailboats of Norfolk Broads for the huge cruise ships of the Caribbean, and sharing with us some tips about what to do in the Barbados island. Can’t wait to go there
Imagine the sun, the sand and the beautiful blue water. What more could you ask for? A cruise to the Caribbean offers beautiful water and beaches, but it also offers lots of other activities to participate in in addition to lounging, tanning and all around relaxing. Read on to see a list of fun activities to partake of on a cruise to Barbados.
Booze Cruise – Many cruisers choose to spend their time off the cruise ship on a smaller sailboat, traveling around the island while indulging in delicious rum punch which is a favorite of the Bajans. A booze cruise is a great way to relax, let your hair down and see the sights while enjoying the beautiful weather. You can also swim with the turtles, go snorkeling and visit quaint local beaches.
Earthworks Pottery – Want to find a perfect souvenir, head to Earthworks Pottery. Here you will find a full pottery studio where workers make strikingly beautiful plates, vases and trinkets in colors and patterns reminiscent of the island’s tropical settings. It’s free to visit the studio and watch as these masterworks are created.
Mount Gay Rum – A favorite of tourists and locals alike is the chance to see how the island’s most famous rum is made, and of course stay for a tasting. Mount Gay Rum has been in production on Barbados since 1703.
The Cliff Restaurant – If you have the urge to dine off-ship, head to The Cliff; a fantastic gourmet restaurant that overlooks the water. This restaurant offers innovative cuisine like Thai Red Curry Mussels and the freshest fish you’ll find anywhere. When the sun sets, torches light up the entire restaurant. Sit on the edge and watch as the cooks below you throw scrap food into the water for the fish. The water is even lighted so you can watch the feast on the reef.
Huntes Garden – These amazing gardens sit in the middle of Barbados’ rain forest. This serene and amazingly cultivated garden has hundreds of different types of plants. Keep your eyes out for the monkeys swinging from the trees above you.
Once again a big thanks to Erica for sharing this tips and also to Cruise Web for the lovely photos. Thanks!
