Things To Do In New York In The Winter

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

When it’s cold outside many of us just want to stay buried under the covers trying to stay warm. If you find yourself in New York this winter you better leave those covers behind and head outside because there are so many great things to do. Do you know what the best part of some of these activities are? They are either free or very cheap! We’ve included four things to do in New York in the winter that are budget friendly.

Go Ice Skating
Many tourists who visit New York City around the holidays go ice skating. This is in part due to the fact that there are many rinks to choose from including the Wollman Rink in Central Park and the Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center. However, our top pick is the one at Bryant Park because it’s free. That’s right, you can ice skating in New York City without having to pay a dime, but you will need to bring your own skates or you will have to rent some for $19.

Vote On A Gingerbread House
For only $1 you can cast your vote for the best gingerbread house at Le Parker Medidien. For the past several years some of the more well-known bakeries and restaurants in New York have made some of the most over the top gingerbread houses that the world has ever seen in hopes of having the best one. They are displayed in the hotel’s atrium from December 4- January 4. All of the money raised goes to City Harvest which helps feed those in need.

Play With Some Toys at FAO Schwartz
The month of December is a great time to treat your kids or even just yourself with a trip to FAO Schwartz. What can be better than belting out a tune while stomping on the giant floor piano or getting to fiddle around with some of the newest gadgets to hit the store shelves? If you want to get a little bit of Christmas shopping done, there are plenty of sales going on as well. And don’t worry, even if you are shopping by yourself, no one will look at you funny for playing with the toys. We’ve all done it!

View The Tree At Rockefeller Center
The ginormous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center seems to be one of the most visited sites in the winter. It is decked out with more than 45,000 lights and is a great place to take pictures in front of for your holiday Christmas cards. The tree lighting will take place on December 3rd and the tree will remain lit each night throughout the month of December.

The winter in New York sounds wonderful doesn’t it? There are so many great things to do that it’s impossible to list them all. Do you have any fun activities that you like to do with your family in New York City?
